조선후기 <大學> 연구와 陸隴其의 영향 (The study of 『Daxue』 in late Joseon and the influence of Lu-longqi)

초록

이 논문은 조선후기 『大學』 연구를 통해 明末淸初 朱子學者 陸隴其(1630-1692) 학설 수용 사례를 검토하는 데 목적이 있다. 육농기는 명말청초를 대표하는 주자학자로서 반주자학설에 대응하기 위해 주자학설을 검토하고 그 정설을 입증하는 실증적 연구에 착수한 인물이다. 주자학 정론화 작업을 주도하던 조선 학자들 역시 그 학설에 관심을 갖고 주자학의 기초인 『대학』 연구에 반영한 바 있다. 그러므로 육농기 大學說 수용 사례에 대한 연구는 조선후기 주자설 정론화 작업과 그 기초인 『大學』 연구에 미친 명말청초 학술의 영향력을 점검하는 유용한 단서가 될 것이라 생각한다. 陸隴其의 大學說은 『四書講義困勉録』 권1 「大學」, 『松陽講義』 권1 「大學」, 『三魚堂文集』 권1 「大學答問」 등에 보인다. 그 특징은 크게 두 가지로 나눌 수 있다. 하나는 주자의 『大學』 개정을 변호하는 것이고, 또 하나는 『大學』에 대한 주자의 정설을 보완하는 것이다. 『大學章句』는 성현의 經傳을 함부로 고쳤다는 사실로 인하여 반주자학자의 비판의 대상이 된 주자학 입문서이다. 이에 육농기가 經傳改正不可說, 知本知至說, 小學文字學說 등을 통해 『大學章句』를 변호한 바 있는데, 조선의 주자학자들은 이를 단서로 반주자학자의 비판에 대응한다. 『大學章句大全』은 주자주 학습을 보조하는 참고서이자 수험서였다. 하지만 『大全』에 수록된 일부 주석이 주자 설과 차이가 있어서 양명학설과 아울러 주자학의 대의를 오인하게 하는 문제를 일으켰다. 이에 육농기가 『大學』에 대한 여러 실증적 연구를 통해 주자주의 정설을 보완하고, 그 성과를 근거로 王守仁의 格去物欲說, 『大全』 소재 黃幹의 明德分屬說, 饒魯의 常人說, 胡炳文의 仁讓分屬說 등을 반박한 바 있는데, 조선의 주자학자들은 이를 단서로 양명학설과 대전주를 비판하며 주자의 정설을 해명한다. 그러므로 육농기 『大學』 연구의 내용과 목표, 즉 주자의 정설 해명과 이단 배척은 주자학 정론화 작업을 주도하던 조선 주자학자의 관심을 살 만한 요소가 적지 않다. 바로 이 점이 조선학계에서 육농기 대학설이 수용된 주요한 이유일 것이다.

영어초록

The purpose of this paper is to examine the case of accepting the doctrines of Orthodox-neo-confucianism scholar Lù-lǒngqí(1630-1692) in the late Ming and the early Qing dynasties through the study of late Joseon Dynasty 『Dàxué』.
Lù-lǒngqí is an Orthodox-neo-confucianism scholar who represents the late Ming and the early Qing dynasties and has led an empirical study that examines the doctrines of orthodox-neo-confucianism and proves its established theory in response to the anti-orthodox-neo-confucianism doctrines.
The Chosun scholars who led the orthodox-neo-confucianism doctrines established were also interested in the doctrine and reflected it in the research of 『Dàxué』 which is the foundation of Orthodox-neo-confucianism.
Therefore, I think the study on the acceptance of Lù-lǒngqí dàxué doctrines would be a useful clue to examining the influence of the scholars on late Ming and the early Qing dynasties in the deliberation of the late Joseon Dynasty doctrines having the influence on the work of the doctrines of orthodox-neo-confucianism established at late Joseon Dynasty and the study of its foundation 『Dàxué』.
Lù-lǒngqí's dàxué doctrines can be seen in 『Sìshujiangyikunmianlu』 vol.1, 「Dàxué」, 『Songyangjiangyi』 vol.1, 「Dàxué」, 『sanyutangwenji』 Vol.1, 「Dàxué Q&A」. There are two main characteristics. One is to defend the revision of Zhu Xi's 『Dàxué』, and the other is to supplement Zhu Xi's orthodoxy about the 『Dàxué』. 『Dàxué』 sentences and phrases』 is a primer on orthodox- neo-confucianism that has been criticized by anti-orthodox-neo-confucianism scholars for the fact of revising the sages's works thoughtlessly.
Thus Lù-lǒngqí defended 『Dàxué』 sentences and phrases through theory of against revision, doctrines of Wang Yangming, hieroglyphology etc.. The orthodox-neo-confucianism scholars in Joseon Dynasty responded to the anti scholars's criticism with the clue of the Lù-lǒngqí doctrines. 『Dàxuédaquan』 was a reference book and an examination book to assist the study of Zhu Xi's note. However, some commentaries included in the 『Daquan』 differed from Zhu Xi's note, which caused the problem of misinterpreting the cause of the original purpose of Orthodox-neo-confucianism as well as the doctrines of Wang Yangming. Therefore, Lù-lǒngqí supplemented the orthodoxy of Zhu Xi's note through various empirical studies on 『Dàxué』, and based on the results, refuted Wang Sooin's, 『daquan』 huanggan's, Raolu's, Hubingwen's and so on.
The Orthodox-neo-confucianism scholars in the Joseon Dynasty criticized the doctrines of Wang Yangming and 『Daquan』 with clues to the doctrine of Lù-lǒngqí. and explained the orthodoxy of Zhu Xi, Therefore the contents and purposes of the Lù-lǒngqí 『Dàxué』 study, namely, the explanation of the orthodox of Zhu Xi and the exclusion of heresy has considerable elements to attract the attention of the Joseon orthodox-neo-confucianism scholars who led the process of making Orthodox-newo-confucianism doctrines established.
This is probably the main reason for the acceptance of Lù-lqngqí's great doctrines in the Joseon dynasty academy.
