한국 전통 유·무형의 민속·문화 요소들을 활용한 문화콘텐츠 개발을 위한 기초 작업 – 대하소설 『혼불』에 재현된 세시의례를 중심으로 - (A Groundwork for the Development of Cultural Contents Using Korean Traditional Tangible and Intangible Folkloric-Cultural Elements -Focusing on Seasonal Customs Rites Represented in Epic Novel Honbul-)

초록

최명희의 대하소설『혼불』은 한국 전통 유·무형의 민속과 풍속에 대한 작가의 해박한 지식이 특히 두드러진다. 작가 최명희는 이 작품 속에서 잊힌 그리고 잊히고 있는 한국 전통 유·무형의 민속·문화 요소들을 철저하게 문화사적으로 고증하여, 그것들을 예리한 관찰력, 창의적인 언어, 정교하고 수려한 문체, 섬세하고 다층적인 기술로 복원하고 재현했다.『혼불』은 한국의 전통적인 민속·문화 요소들을 서사적 사건과 서사적 상황 속으로 완전히 용해하지 않고, 그것들 자체를 독자적으로 재현했다는 점에서 다른 대하소설과 큰 차이를 보인다. 최명희는 이 작품 속에서 출산의례, 관례, 혼인의례, 상례, 제례, 세시의례, 의식주 생활, 신분제, 풍수, 무속신앙, 풍물, 놀이, 신화, 전설 등 다양한 한국 전통 유·무형의 민속자료들을 복원했다. 그래서 『혼불』이 ‘민속지적 소설’이라는 새로운 문학 장르를 열었다는 평가가 있다.
본 연구자들의 궁극적인 목표는 『혼불』에 재현된 한국 전통 유·무형의 민속·문화 요소들을 평생의례, 세시의례, 영역의례 등 영역별로 추출하고, 추출된 민속·문화 요소들을 새롭고 창의적으로 기획하여 문화콘텐츠로 개발하고, 개발된 문화콘텐츠를 제4차 산업혁명의 시대에 걸맞게 문화산업의 아이템으로 발전시킬 방안을 모색하는 데에 있다. 우리의 최종 목표를 위해서는 일련의 사전 작업이 요구된다. 그런 사전 작업 중 하나로서 본 연구가 기획되었다. 본 연구에서는 민속지적 소설의 해체 읽기 작업을 통해 세시의례와 관련하여『혼불』에서 재현된 한국 전통 유·무형의 민속·문화 요소들을 추출하는 것에 집중한다.

영어초록

The roman-fleuve Honbul, written by Myung-Hee Choi, is especially characterized by her wide and comprehensive knowledge about Korean traditional tangible and intangible folkloric-cultural elements. In Honbul the author Myung-Hee Choi restored and reproduced forgotten and forgetting Korean traditional tangible and intangible folkloric-cultural materials with her keen powers of observation, creative words, elaborative and fine writing style, delicate and multi-layered description etc. based on thorough cultural-historical research. Honbul differs greatly from the majority of other Korean epic novels in that it didn’t completely dissolve Korean traditional tangible and intangible folkloric-cultural elements into narrative events, but reproduced them in their own way. In this work Myung-Hee Choi restored various Korean traditional tangible and intangible folkloric-cultural materials such as birth rites, coming-of-age rites, wedding rites, funeral rites, ancestral rites, food, clothing, shelter, status system, feng shui, shamanism, things Korean, play, myth, legend etc. In this sense Honbul is estimated to open a new literary genre of ethnographic novel.


We, the researchers, have an ultimate goal to extract Korean traditional tangible and intangible folkloric-cultural materials represented in Honbul according to lifetime rites, seasonal customs rites, territory rites and so on, and to develop extracted materials into cultural contents by designing them afresh and creatively, to reform developed cultural contents into items of cultural industry which are appropriate to the age of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. For our eventual objective a series of advanced works are, however, required. As one of such advanced works our study is planned. This paper focuses on the extraction of Korean traditional tangible and intangible folkloric-cultural elements concerning seasonal customs rites represented in Honbul through a deconstructive reading of ethnographic novel.(Sogang University/Soongsil University)
