유가족 돌봄의 기독교 화장예식 (Christian Cremation Ceremony with Care for the Bereaved Family)

초록

전도서 7장 2절에 “초상집에 가는 것이 잔치집에 가는 것보다 나으니 모든 사람의 끝이 이와 같이 됨이라...”고 했다. 모든 사람은 죽는다. 이를 명심하도록 주신 말씀이다. 그렇기에 장례식에 참여하여 고인을 기억하고 유가족을 위로하는 것은 큰 의미가 있다. 기독교 장례는 고인을 하나님께 의탁하고 유가족을 위로하며 부활을 선포하는 예식이다. 이러한 의미들이 잘 전달되고 수행되기 위해서 장례에 대한 이해는 필수적이다. 고인이 별세했다는 것과 더 이상 만날 수 없다는 것은 유가족에게 받아들이기 힘든 슬픔이다. 무엇보다도 유가족이 장례의 과정에서 가장 힘든 순간으로 고인의 몸이 한줌의 재가 되는 화장예식의 순간이다. 구가 화장로에 들어가는 순간에 유가족을 비롯하여 모든 예식 참여자들은 오열한다. 화장예식은 설교자의 설교에 따라 다르겠지만 보통 10분 미만이다. 화장로 앞에 마련된 종교시설에서 짧게 할 수 밖에 없다. 그런데 고인이 한줌의 재가 되는 시간은 2시간이나 기다린다. 그 시간은 유가족이 영적으로 정신적으로 받아들이기 힘든 시간이다. 화장이 진행되는 2시간 동안 유가족을 방치할 수 없다. 그렇기에 화장시간에 유가족을 위한 예전적 돌봄이 필요하다. 물론 장례 이후에도 유가족에 대한 돌봄이 필요하다. 본고에서는 화장예식에서 유가족 돌봄을 위해 예전적으로 세 가지를 제안한다. 세 가지는 성만찬, 기억 나눔, 그리고 중보기도이다. 유가족은 성만찬을 통해 죽음에서 부활하신 예수 그리스도를 먹고 마심으로 부활의 소망을 갖는다. 기억 나눔은 고인의 구가 화장로에 있는 동안 고인에 대한 좋았던 기억을 회상하고 나눔으로 슬픔 대신 기쁨과 감사로 감정을 전이시키는 역할을 한다. 마지막으로 중보기도는 유가족을 위로하고 하나님께 감사와 영광을 드리는 기도이다. 이 연구가 화장예식에서 유가족에 대한 예전적 돌봄이 잘 이뤄지게 만드는 촉매제가 되길 기대한다.

Ecclesiastes 7:2 says, “It is better to go to the house of mourning than to go to the house of feasting, for death is the destiny of everyone...” Everyone dies. This is a word given to bear in mind. It is very meaningful to attend a funeral to remember the deceased and comfort the bereaved family. A Christian funeral is a ceremony to entrust the deceased to God, comfort the bereaved family, and proclaim resurrection. In order for these meanings to be conveyed and carried out well, the understanding of funeral rites is essential. The fact that the deceased passed away and that we can no longer see the deceased is a grief that is difficult for the bereaved family to accept. Above all, it is the moment when the body of the deceased becomes a handful of ashes as the most difficult moment for the bereaved family during the funeral process. The moment a casket enters the crematorium, all participants in the ceremony, including the bereaved family, weep. The cremation ceremony will vary depending on the sermon of the preacher, but it is usually less than 10 minutes. The cremation ceremony has no choice but to be shorter in religious facilities prepared in front of the crematorium. However, it takes two hours for the deceased to become a handful of ashes. The cremation is a difficult time for the bereaved family to accept spiritually and mentally. The bereaved family cannot be left unattended during the two hours during which cremation takes place. That’s why it is necessary for the bereaved family to take care of liturgical care during the cremation time. Of course, even after the funeral, care for the bereaved family is necessary. In this paper, three things were liturgically suggested for the care of the bereaved family at the cremation ceremony. The three are Holy Communion, memory sharing, and intercession. Through Holy Communion The bereaved family has the hope of resurrection by eating and drinking Jesus Christ who was resurrected from the dead. Memory sharing of the deceased plays a role in recalling good memories of the deceased while a casket is in the crematorium and transferring emotions to joy and gratitude instead of sadness through memory sharing. Lastly, intercessory prayer comforts the bereaved family and enables them to pray to give thanks and glory to God. I hope that this study will serve as a catalyst for making a liturgical care for the bereaved family well done at the cremation ceremony.
