통일신라 사찰 澗月寺의 창건 시기와 가람배치 변화 검토 (A Study on the Construction Time and Changes to the Arrangement of Its Buildings of the Ganwol Buddhist Temple of Unified Silla)

초록

통일신라 사찰 간월사의 창건 시기와 가람배치 변화 검토라는 이글을 통해서 다음과 같은 4가지를 밝혀낼 수 있었다.
첫 번째, 간월사의 초창 시기를 기존 신라 진덕여왕 자장율사의 창건이 아닌 석조물이 건립되고 있는 750년으로 조정하였다.
두 번째, 간월사의 초창기 가람 형식이 기존 강당-금당-쌍탑-중문의 신라 쌍탑 사찰의 대표적인 형식이 아닌 간월사지 금당과 강당의 거리, 금당 후면 계단의 생략, 금당지와 1, 2호 건물지의 건립 시기 차이가 없는 점을 종합적으로 고려하여 창건기 3금당-쌍탑-중문의 독자적인 형식으로 설정하였다.
세 번째, 중문지의 경우 발굴보고서에서는 도리칸 5칸 형식으로 추정하고 있으나 일반적인 신라 산지사찰에서 건립되는 중문은 대부분 도리칸 3칸 구조로 조성되고 있다. 간월사지 중문 역시 도리칸 3칸 구조로 추정할 수 있고 중문 좌우로 좌우廊이 조성되었을 가능성이 있다.
네 번째, 간월사의 가람배치는 초창기 이후 특별한 변화상이 확인되지 않다가 고려 중기 ~ 조선 초기까지 확연하게 사세가 위축된다. 다른 시기의 유물에 비해 상대적으로 이 시기 유물의 출현 빈도가 현저하게 떨어지고 있기 때문이다. 또한 간월사는 임진왜란 이후 대규모 중수가 이루어져 많은 종이를 생산했던 사찰로 발돋움하지만, 19세기 다시 폐사되어 오늘날에 이르고 있다.

영어초록

This study examines the construction time and changes to the arrangement of its buildings of the Ganwol Buddhist Temple from the period of Unified Silla. The findings shed light on the following four points: First, the study determined the first construction of the Ganwol Buddhist Temple to be 750 when its stone structures were being built rather than the previous estimation that it was built by Jajang Yulsa during the reign of Queen Jindeok in Silla.
Second, the study determined that the building sequence of the Ganwol Buddhist Temple from its initial phase to its independent form was golden shrine－twin towers－yard door rather than the old estimation of assembly hall－golden shrine- twin towers－yard door, the representative form of Silla's Buddhist temples with twin towers. This sequence was determined by putting together and considering the distance between the golden shrine and the assembly hall at the site of the temple, the omission of the rear steps in the golden shrine, and no difference in construction time between the site of the golden shrine and Building Numbers one and two.
Third, the excavation report for the yard door site estimates that the yard door was made in 5-purlin section form, but the Silla's Buddhist temples in the mountains, in most cases, had a 3-purlin section yard door. It is estimated that the yard door of the Ganwol Buddhist Temple also had a 3-purlin section structure, and it is possible that a Sarangchae was built on the right and left side of the yard door.
Finally, special changes have been found in the building arrangement of the Ganwol Buddhist Temple since its early days. The situation of the temple withered clearly between middle Goryeo and early Joseon, judging from a sharp drop in the appearance frequency of the artifacts during this period compared to other periods. The Ganwol Buddhist Temple underwent a large-scale renovation after Injinwaeran, taking a leap into becoming a powerhouse of paper production. It was, however, closed down in the 19th century but has stood there since then.
