초록

대구지역 혁신세력은 이승만 대통령의 하야 직후 정치세력으로 결집하였다. 이들은 보수·혁신 구도의 정치체제를 구축하기 위해 7·29총선에 적극 참여하였다. 혁신세력은 대구를 원내 진출의 교두보로 인식하여 저명한 인사를 내세우며 총력을 기울였다. 그러나 총선에서 참패했고 보혁구도의 정치체제를 구축하는데 실패하였다. 시민의 민주 정치의식이 미약하고 전근대적인 선거 형태에 익숙한 상황에서 선거를 위해 급조된 조직, 대중과 유리되고 호소력이 약한 정책과 조악한 선전 방식, 선거 자금의 부족 등 선거에 필요한 요소를 갖추지 못한 채 지나치게 낙관적인 현실 인식에 기초하여 ‘바람’과 ‘붐’에 크게 의존했기 때문이었다.
혁신세력은 총선 후 그동안 잠재된 각 계파 사이의 갈등이 표출되어 분열하였다. 통일방안 등 이념·노선 차이와 함께 주도권 문제가 작용했으며, 주도 인물과의 친소 관계도 작용하면서 이합집산 하였다. 그럼에도 중앙에서의 갈등과는 달리 대구에서는 갈등 해소를 위해 노력했으나, 분열의 소용돌이를 피할 수 없어 4개의 혁신정당으로 분화되었다.
혁신정당은 정치세력화 활동과 함께 지역 혁신세력과 연대하여 진보적 사회운동을 벌였다. 외국의 경제침략을 막고 자주성 확보를 위해 일본경제시찰단의 방한 반대, 한미경제협정의 체결 반대운동을 펼쳤으며, 대중의 기본권 보장과 민주주의 요구를 억압하는 반공법과 데모규제법 제정을 반대하는 활동을 벌였다. 일부 혁신정당은 남북학생회담을 지지·후원하는 활동을 벌였다. 이 시기 혁신세력은 진보적 민주주의를 지향하며, 인권·평화를 비롯한 인류의 보편적 가치를 확장시키는 역할을 하였다. 동시에 새로운 진보세력을 등장시키는 토양의 마련과 함께 지난했던 활동을 마감하며 역사 속으로 사라지는 과정이었다.

Progressive forces in the Daegu region were mobilized as political forces shortly after President Lee's visit. They actively participated in the 7·29 general election to build a political system of conservative and progressive structure. Daegu recognized its progressive forces as a bridgehead for its advancement into the National Assembly and put its full force in the hands of prominent people. However, unlike expectations, the election failed in the general election and failed to establish a political system of conservative and progressive structure. In the situation where citizens are familiar with democratic political consciousness and familiar with the pre-modern election form, they are overly optimistic without the elements necessary for the election, such as a hasty organization, a free and poorly appealing policy and poor publicity, It was because they relied heavily on 'wind' and 'boom' based on realistic perception.
Progressive forces have been divided after the general election, in which conflicts between each of the latent lines have been revealed. And ideology and unification plan, and the initiative issue became a conflict factor, and the relationship with the leading person also acted. Unlike the conflicts in the center, Daegu tried to resolve conflicts, but it could not avoid the swirl of divisions and became a party of four.
In addition to political mobilization, the progressive party organized a progressive social movement in cooperation with regional progressive forces. In order to prevent foreign economic invasions and to secure independence, the government conducted a campaign against the visit of the Japanese economic inspectors and against the conclusion of the Korea-US economic agreement, and opposed the enactment of anti-communist laws and demo regulatory laws that suppressed democratic demands and the rights of the public. Some progressive political parties supported and sponsored inter-Korean student talks.
The progressive forces of April revolutionized various ideologies and political forces for progressive democracy and expanded the universal values ​​of humanity such as democracy, human rights and peace. At the same time, with the preparation of soil for the emergence of new progressive forces, it was a process of disappearing into history.
