고려후기 陶器筒形壺에 보이는 元의 영향 (An Effect of Yuan on Pottery Cylindrical Shape Jar in the Late Goryeo Dynasty)

초록

고려시대 후기인 13세기 중반~14세기말에 해당하는 유적에서 확인되는 도기 가운데 편평한 바닥에 細長한 동체가 연결되고, 구연의 중간부분에 단이 져 있으면서 어깨부분에 2~4개의 고리가 달린 것이 있다. 이러한 형태의 도기는 고려 자체에서 제작된 것이 아니라 원에서 제작 사용하던 것이 교류를 통해 고려로 유입된 것으로 파악하여 소위 ‘몽고병’이라고 불러왔다. 원에서 제작한 이 도기통형호는 동시기 고려와 일본에서도 간간히 확인되고 있어 당시에 동아시아 삼국에서 모두 확인되는 도기 가운데 하나이다.
도기통형호는 동아시아 각국에서 원대에 해당하는 침몰선이나 원과 관련이 있는 유적에서 확인된 사례가 많다. 그리고 이것은 그 자체가 무역품으로 볼 수 있을 만큼 많은 양이 출토되는 것이 아니어서 원대 무역선에서 선상생활용으로 사용된 용구였을 가능성이 매우 높다. 도기통형호는 장거리 해양이동 과정에서 필요한 물·술·간장 등 액체로 된 식료품을 담는 용도로 사용되었던 것으로 추정되며, 이러한 용도에 걸맞게 고려에서도 원과의 해상루트로 연결되는 지점인 제주도와 서남해안 일대에서 주로 확인되고 있다. 이렇게 고려에서 원대 도기통형호가 출토되는 것은 당시 고려와 원이 정치적으로 밀접한 관계에 있었고 이를 토대로 많은 인적·물적 교류가 이루어졌기 때문이다. 원의 문물이 다양한 방식과 루트를 통해 고려에 전해졌는데, 양국 교류의 일면이 도기통형호의 사례를 통해 도기에도 나타나는 현상임이 확인된다.
원과의 교류를 통해 고려로 유입된 도기통형호는 비슷한 형태를 유지한 채 14세기 중반 이후 고려에서도 자체적으로 제작되었다. 한반도에서 확인되는 도기통형호 가운데 ‘덕천고’와 및 ‘보원고’와 같이 고려에서만 확인되는 관사명이 새겨져 있다는 점과 제작기법상 고려도기의 특징인 동체 외면에 격자타날문이 남아 있다는 점을 통해서 그러한 추정이 가능하다. 고려에서 제작한 도기통형호는 당시 동아시아에서 공통적으로 사용되었던 원대 도기를 수용하고 이것을 모방한 예로서 중요한 의미를 지닌다. 즉, 고려에서 제작한 관사명 도기통형호는 이질적인 문화요소가 교류를 통해 고려에 유입되었고 그것을 수용한 후 모방하여 제작까지 했던 과정을 보여주는 하나의 구체적인 사례라고 할 수 있다.

영어초록

Among pottery found in the ruins applicable to the middle of the 13th century to the end of the 14th century, there is a piece of pottery that a spindly body is connected to the flat bottom, a tier was created in the middle of 구연, and 2 to 4 rings are on the shoulder part. This form of pottery has been called ‘Mongolian Bottle’ as it was understood that pottery manufactured and used in Yuan (Not the Goryeo Dynasty) was introduced to the Goryeo Dynasty through exchange. Cylindrical shape jar, this potter which was manufactured in Yuan, is one of pottery shared by three countries in East Asia as it was sometimes found in the Goryeo Dynasty and Japan at the time.

There are many cases that pottery cylindrical shape jars were found in sunken vessels which are applicable to the Yuan Dynasty or ruins related to Yuan from all areas of East Asia. And there is a strong likelihood that these pottery cylindrical shape jars are a tool used for life on board in merchant vessels in the Yuan Dynasty because a lot of quantity were not excavated as other trade goods were founded. They were presumed to be used for putting liquid food including water, alcohol, and soy sauce necessary for traveling long distances in the ocean in them.
Like this purpose, in the Goryeo Dynasty, they are usually found in the whole area of Jeju Island and the South West Cost, the point of the sea route connected to Yuan. Like this, pottery cylindrical shape jars of the Yuan Dynasty are excavated in the Goryeo Dynasty because the Goryeo Dynasty was closely connected with Yuan in politics and personnel and material exchange was done based on this. The culture of Yuan was spread to the Goryeo Dynasty in various ways and through various routes. These phenomena have found to be shown in pottery through the case of pottery cylindrical shape jars.
Pottery cylindrical shape jars introduced to the Goryeo Dynasty through its exchange with Yuan were autonomously manufactured in it as the similar form was maintained since the middle of the 14th century. This can be estimated in that among pottery cylindrical shape jars found in the Korean Peninsula, the names of the tool just found in the Goryeo Dynasty like ‘Deokcheongo’ and ‘Bowongo’ were carved on them and grid beating patterns remained on the external surface of the bodies, the characteristics of its pottery, according to the manufacturing technique. Pottery cylindrical shape jars manufactured in the Goryeo Dynasty are very meaningful as the example that it accepted pottery of the Yuan Dynasty commonly used in East Asia at the time and imitated them. That is, pottery cylindrical shape jars, official inscription manufactured in the Goryeo Dynasty can be a specific example which shows the process to accept different cultural elements of Yuan and imitate and manufacture them after they were introduced to it through exchange.
