거대사이클로 본 아시아 문화와 사상의 재발견 - 새로움은 언제나 아시아에서 시작된다 - (Rediscovery of Asian Culture and Thought in the Macrocycle - Novelty always begins with Asia -)

초록

이 논문은 21세기 들어 정치, 경제, 과학, 기술분야에서 아시아의 위상변화에 즈음하여 세계가 아시아시대를 주목하려는 이유를 그와 같은 인식의 토대가 되어온 아시아의 문화와 사상에서 찾아보기 위하여 쓴 것이다.
거시적으로 보면 문화와 사상의 거대사이클들이 형성될 때마다 새로움의 단서는 늘 아시아에 있었다. 다시 말해 서양의 문화와 사상은 ‘서양의 몰락이나 해체라는 low end의 국면에서 파괴적 자기혁신이 필요할 때마다 그것을 위한 지적 영감(inspiration)과 통찰력(insight)을 아시아에서 구하곤 했다. 일찍이 피타고라스와 플라톤은 상당한 기간동안 인도에 머물면서 인도의 문화와 사상을 배웠는가 하면 아리스토텔레스의 제자 알렉산드로스도 회의주의 철학의 창시자 퓌론(Pyrrhon)과 인도를 동행하여 그곳의 종교와 철학에서 자신들의 지적 영감과 통찰력을 찾으려 했다.
그러면 옛날부터 서양(유럽인)은 왜 이토록 동양문화에 매혹되었나? 그것은 유럽인의 이동욕망과 동방의 충격이 가져온 상승효과(synergism) 때문일 것이다. 클라크(J.J. Clarke)도 서구인의 공간적 이동욕망과 더욱 커진 권력의지에서 그 해답을 찾는다. 하지만 오늘날 생물로서의 서양은 이미 늙었다. 서구문화와 사상도 마찬가지다. 그로 인해 서양은 존속적 자기혁신을 기대하기 힘들만큼 쇠락의 길로 접어들고 있다. 정치, 경제를 비롯하여 여러 가지 징후가 말해주듯 macrocycle의 축(axis)도 이미 아시아로 옮겨오고 있다. 여명은 언제나 문자의 의미 그대로 ‘Asia’에서 시작되는 것이다. 서양은 아마도 머지않아 새로운 Eastern Impact로 인해 새로운 거대사이클(macrocycle)을 경험해야 할 국면에 놓이게 될 것이다. 그러므로 이제는 세계의 공존적 번영을 위하여 아시아인들이 다양한 분야에서 아시아인에 의한 ‘지구적 융합’(Global Convergence)을 주장해야 할 차례이다. 이것은 서양에 대한 ‘아시아의 침입’이 아니라 인류의 미래를 위해 아시아에 의해 이루어질 가장 효과적인 혁신방법이기 때문이다.

영어초록

Virginity of culture does not actually exist. Culture can not be other thing than Inter-Culture(間文化). Consequently there can not be Intra-Culture(內文化). The reason for that there is no pure culture is identical with it. Shown in a Chinese character '文+化' and an English word 'culture' originated from Latin colere means 'cultivate'(grains), culture means neither pure culture and nor unmixed breed. Why Europeans attracted so much by the Eastern culture and thought? Because of synergism of Eastern Impact and desire for moving of Europeans, it may have been just so. J.J. Clark find the answer to this in more extended intention for the power and desire for moving of Europeans by finding in geography in 16 centuries. That is, information supplied by reports of missionaries at first, and by scholars and travellers attracted spirits of Europeans.
Asian culture was a virus having the infective power even in the art which consider the originality as the most important factor. So it is not necessary to say the absence of full blood in overall culture, because culture is innatedly inter-cultural and multi-cultural. Furthermore it could not be avoided that a kind of mixed breeding happened to a certain extent in the cultural metamorphosis because the operating method of Asian culture on Western one in macrocycle was always silent contagion. Merleau-Ponty said "there is no centre of philosophy for it is in everywhere" I 「L'Orient et la philosophie」(1960), and insisted his position on locality of the Eastern philosophy including Chinese philosophy. He asked a question in return that Was there western philosophy to identify correction(礼) as the most basic virtue which is harmonizing with other things, teaching exact coincidence of microcosmos and macrocosmos like as Chinese philosophy. According to him Westerns blamed in their conjectures that Chinese philosophers did not try to find the origin of objects in the meaning of understanding and recognition, and that they had not tried it at start.
In macroscopic view, the clue of novelty or newness has always in Asia. Culture and thought of the West has found some inspiration and insight whenever it needs disruptive innovation in respect of low end situation as ‘Decline or Deconstruction of the West’. Formerly, Pythagoras and Plato stayed in India during significant terms and learned the culture and thought of India. Alexandros, a pupil of Aristotle, accompanied Pyrrhon who was founder of skepticism to India and tried to find inspiration and insight in religion and philosophy for them. Also it is the reason to expect and focus on the Asia again for treatment and overcoming of those symptoms. About 2,500 years ago Alexandros considered ‘marriage of Europe and Asia' as his idea, but it is time to insist 'Global Convergence' in various respects by Asian for the prosperity of the world. This is not the East's invasion of the West, but the most effective method of global innovation by the East for our future.
