점술을 구성하는 요소들의 특징과 이를 통한 새로운 점술모형 연구 (A Study of the Features of Elements of Divinations and a New Model of Divination)

초록

미지(未知)의 문제를 자신의 이성적 지식이나 경험으로, 혹은 순간적인 직감(느낌, 예감)만으로 선택을 했다면 이는 ‘점(占)’이 아니다. ①인간이 ②초월적 존재(신)에게 ③미지의 문제를 질문하여 ④미리 준비한 도구(점구)에 ⑤조짐(신의)을 얻고 ⑥이것을 해석하는 과정을 거쳐 답(점괘)을 얻어야만 비로소 점이라 정의 할 수 있다. 기존 민속학에서 다루어졌던 점술연구는 ‘⑤신의(징표)’를 일종의 ‘점괘(=답변)’로 규정하고, [②신→⑤신의(점괘)→①인간]이라는 커뮤니케이션의 모형으로 설명하고 있다. 점술이 ‘②초월적 존재(신)’에게 답변을 구하기 때문에 위의 모형이 합당한 것처럼 보이지만, 점술을 진행하는 ‘①인간’과 점술의 기점인 ‘③질문’에 대한 중요성과 ‘④도구(점구)’, ‘⑥해석과정’ 등의 요소들을 제대로 다루지 않아 점술만의 특징을 온전하게 설명하지 못하고 있다. 게다가 이 모형은 종교의 모형과도 흡사하여 상충(相沖)한다. 이에 본 논문에서는 점술요소들의 특징을 명확히 살펴 이를 통해 새로운 점술모형을 정립하려 했다. 그 결과 점술은 신이 아닌 인간중심으로 진행되는 시스템이라는 것을 증명하였고, 이를 통해 점술과 종교에 공통적으로 존재하는 신의(神意)의 성향도 서로간의 구분이 가능했다. 또한 ‘명(命)→조짐(兆朕)→인문적 해석’의 과정을 거쳐야만 ‘점괘’가 도출된다는 것도 확인하였다. 마지막으로 위의 결과들을 현대 커뮤니케이션 모형의 대표적 이론인 라스웰(Harold D. Lasswell)모형에 대입하여, [인간(누가)→질문(무엇을)→점술(어떤 채널로)→신(누구에게)→질문의 답변(무슨 효과를 얻는가?)]이라는 새로운 점술만의 모형을 정립하였다.

영어초록

It is not ‘divination(=fortune telling)’ when a person makes a decision on unknowable matters from his/her own reasoning, experience, or momentary intuitions (feeling, premonition). Divination can only be defined when ①a human being ②asks a transcendental existence(or god) ③of unknowable matters ④through prepared divination instrument in order to ⑤receive the divine will(or sign) and ⑥acquire the answer from interpretations. Studies of folklorists on divination understood ⑤the divine will(or sign) as ‘divination sign(or answer) and explains divination with a communication model [②transcendental existence(or god)→ ⑤the divine will(or sign)→ ①human being.] Due to the fact that divination asks ②a transcendental existence(or god) an answer, this seems to be proper model. However, the communication model does not deal with the elements such as ①‘human being’ who implements divination, ③‘asking’ that is the starting point of divination, and ④instruments (divination instruments) and ⑥‘interpretations process’ of divination, therefore, it do not fully explain the unique features of divination.
Moreover, this model is similar to a model of religion, and it contradicts with it. Hence, this paper deals with the features of elements of divination to suggest a new model of divination. As a result, it is identified that divination is carried out not by god(transcendental existence), but by a human being. Futhermore, the meaning of the divine willing in divination and god's intention that is generally present in religion could be classified. It is also found that ‘divination sign’ may be acquired from the progress of ‘god’s intention→sign→humanistic interpretation.’in conclusion, this paper suggests a new model of divination by substituting the findings above to Lasswell model, which is a representative modern communication model. This new model constitutes of [a human being(who)→asking(what)→divination(which channel)→transcendental existence(to whom)→the answer(what is the effect)].
