운장암 금동관음보살상의 종합적 연구와 수조각승 석준의 중수 (A Study on Gilt-bronze Avalokitesvra Bodhisattva Statue at Unjangam Temple and Restoration by Head Sculptor Monk Sukjun)

초록

청양 운장암의 금동관음보살상은 고려(1330년경) 후반기에 조성된 대표적인 보살상으로 높이 평가되며 아울러 임진왜란 때 훼손되어 1610년에 당대의 저명한 수조각승 석준에 의해서 중수되어 여러 가지로 중요시 되고 있다.
첫째, 조선 후반기 조각승의 원조인 석준 수조각승의 중수기를 통하여 고려 금동관음보살상이 임진왜란으로 심대한 피해를 입은 사실과 운장암 금동관음보살상의 조성 배경을 다소 밝힐 수 있었다.
둘째, 운장암 금동관음보살상의 도상 특징을 1330년 서산 부석사 금동관음보살상 등과 동일한 왼쪽 팔꿈치의 Ω형 주름, 삼각형 가사묶음 장식, 군의의 띠매듭, 무릎 아래의 삼각형 옷주름, 전신 영락 장식 등 5대 도상 특징을 가지고 있는 가장 대표적인 5대 금동관음보살상의 하나로 판단된다.
셋째, 운장암 금동관음보살상은 1330년 서산 부석사 금동관음보살상, 1333년 국립중앙박물관 금동관음·세지보살상의 양식적 특징과 거의 동일하고 1313년 민천사 금동불상, 1346년 문수사 금동아미타불상 등과 양식적으로 비교할 수 있으므로 운장암 관음보살상은 1330년 전후에 조성된 고려의 대표적 금동보살상으로 평가했다.
넷째, 운장암 금동관음보살상의 복장품 7종을 분석하여 조성 시기 복장, 개금 사실 등을 알 수 있다.
다섯째, 이 운장암 금동관음보살상은 고려 후반기 14세기 금동관음보살상을 대표하는 금동보살상으로 큰 의의를 가진다고 판단된다.

영어초록

The gilt-bronze Avalokitesvra Bodhisattva statue of Unjanan Temple in Cheongyang is highly regarded as a representative Bodhisattva statue created in the late Goryeo period (Around 1330), and additionally when it was damaged during the Imjin-year Japanese Invasion, the famous head sculptor monk Sukjun restored it in 1610. In this respect, it is regarded important in many ways.
First, through the restoration record of the head sculptor monk, Sukjun for whom the term, sculptor monk was used for the first time in the latter half of Joseon, the fact that the Goryeo gilt-bronze Avalokitesvra Bodhisattva statue was severely damaged by the Imjin-year Japanese Invasion and the creation background of the Unjanan Temple gilt-bronze Avalokitesvra Bodhisattva statue were somewhat clarified.
Second, it is judged as one of the most representative 5 gilt-bronze Avalokitesvra Bodhisattva statues with 5 iconography characteristics such as -shaped wrinkles on the left elbow identical to those of the gilt-bronze Avalokitesvra Bodhisattva statue at SeosanBuseok-sa temple in 1330, the triangular Gasa costume knot decoration, the band knot of the Gunui, the triangular pleats below the knee, and the whole body decorations, which are the iconographic features of the Unjanan Temple gilt-bronze Avalokitesvra Bodhisattva statue.
Third, as the gilt-bronze Avalokitesvra Bodhisattva statue at Unjanan Temple is almost identical to the stylistic features of the gilt-bronze Avalokitesvra Bodhisattva Statue at Seosan Buseok-sa temple in 1330, and those of the gilt-bronze Avalokiteshvara Seji Bodhisattva statue in the National Museum of Korea in 1333, and it can be compared in style with the gilt-bronze Buddha statue at Mincheon-sa temple in 1313, and the gilt-bronze Amitabha Buddha Statue at Munsu-sa temple in 1346, the Avalokitesvra Bodhisattva statue at Unjanan Temple was evaluated as Goryeo's representative gilt-bronze Bodhisattva statue created around 1330.
Fourth, by analyzing seven types of artifacts inside the statue chest of the gilt-bronze Avalokitesvra Bodhisattva statue at Unjanan Temple, the chest artifacts at the time of creation and the fact of Gaegeum can be found.
