초록

In the early-eighteenth century there was a close connection between the Uekawak(上河) family and the Tesima(手島) family. the Uekawa family succeeded to the Tesima family in the mid-eighteenth century. Actually So-sin(宗信) who was a head of the Uekawa family in Ho-reki(宝曆) handed over the right and property of a patriarch to his eldest son. After that, So-sin succeeded to the Tesima family and called himself Tesima-kazaemon(手島嘉左衛門) as a patriarch of the Tesima family. It was established the succession of two families by one person; in other words an ex-head of the Uekawa family inherited the Tesima family.
The pattern of that succession caused a temporary break in the succession of the Tesima family according to the absence of an ex-head in the Uekawa family. Because of that problem So-si(宗禔), a head of the Uekawa family, made his second son a patriarch of the Tesima family in the early-nineteenth century. That was an irregular succession and a change of the pattern in the succession of two families by one person. But an ex-head of the Uekawa family inherited the Tesima family from the early-eighteenth sentury to the mid-nineteenth century as a whole.
In 1857, however, So-mei(宗明) who was a patriarch of the Tesima family changed his name from kazaemon to kaemon(嘉右衛門). He didn't use the name of the Tesima family any more. kazaemon as the name of the Tesima family had not been written at the document of memorial ceremonies for ancestors of the Tesima family thereafter. That means a big change in the relationship between the Uekawak family and the Tesima family.
As a matter of fact, the Uekawak family has been alienated from the Tesima family since the early-nineteenth century. The tendency increased more and more. So that the connection with the Uekawak family and the Tesima family and Singaku(心學) was weakened.
