유아용 가구를 위한 텍스타일디자인 개발 연구 (A Study on the Development of Textile Design for Kids Furniture)

초록

저출산과 생활수준의 향상은 유아에 대한 관심과소중함을 증가시켰으며 유아를 대상으로 하는 산업전반에 대한 투자와 질적 성장을 이끌어 오고 있다.
가구시장에 있어서도 유아용 가구는 더 이상 트렌드에 민감한 틈새시장으로 인식되는 것이 아니라 하나의 독립적인 시장으로서 양적, 질적으로 확대되어 발전하고 있다. 이에 따라 유아의 특성을 분석하고, 그특성에 맞는 유아용 가구의 개발이 필요하다.
유아기는 3세부터 7세까지로 상상력이 풍부하고 주위 환경에 대한 호기심이 증가하는 등 인격형성의 기초가 되는 중요한 시기라 할 수 있다. 유아기의 발달과정에서 나타나는 특징을 살펴보면, 운동능력의 증가로 신체 발달이 급속도로 일어나며, 모든 정서가 분화되어 강하게 나타난다. 또한 주변인들과의 관계에서다양한 사회적 태도들이 형성되고, 경험과 학습을 통한 사물을 인지하는 능력을 키우게 된다. 또한 5세 이후부터 형태와 색을 이해하고 다양한 색에 대한 관심을 갖게 된다. 이러한 유아기의 발달과정에 적합한 유아의 가구를 사용한다면 유아들의 신체발달, 정서나인지발달 그리고 사회성 발달에 도움이 될 것이다.
유아용 가구는 유아의 다양한 발달에 영향을 줄 뿐아니라 유아의 신체와 접촉이 많은 물품으로서 안전성이 최우선으로 고려되어야 하고, 유아의 흥미와 욕구를 충족하는 디자인에 대한 고려도 있어야 한다. 유아들이 가장 많은 시간을 보내는 공간에 위치한 가구에 적합한 색채와 이미지의 적용은 유아의 미적 감성에 도움이 되고 정서적 발달에 많은 역할을 한다. 유아들이 선호하는 형태와 색을 살펴보면, 유아들은 형태보다는 색을 먼저 인식하며 난색계열과 높은 채도의 색을 선호한다. 형태적으로는 친근감을 주는 동물형태와 단순한 이미지를 선호하는 것으로 나타난다.
또한, 유아용 가구에 있어서 소재의 선택은 만지고 느끼는 것을 통해 사물을 인지하고 질감을 통해 심리적반응을 보이는 유아들에게는 중요한 영향을 미친다.
기본적으로 가구에 사용되어지는 목재, 플라스틱 또는금속소재에서 느껴지는 딱딱한 질감에 부드러운 질감을 가진 섬유소재의 적용은 유아들에게 심리적인 안정감을 더해 줄 수 있으며 안전성과 기능성에도 장점을 가지고 있다.
유아용 가구에 있어서 섬유소재의 사용에 대한 가능성과 필요성을 알아보기 위해 국내ㆍ외 유아용 가구 시장에서 소비자의 인지도가 높은 총 16개의 브랜드를 선정하고, 브랜드별로 텍스타일디자인이 적용된제품에 대한 특징을 분석하였다. 그 결과 소재의 경우천연소재인 면의 사용이 많았고, 기능적인 부분에서는휴식용 기능과 유아의 특성을 고려한 놀이 기능이 접목된 가구들이 많이 나타났다. 색상에서는 난색계열인핑크의 사용이 많았고, 모티브에서는 단순한 형태와스트라이프와 같은 기하학적 형태와 자연물 이미지를적용한 디자인 사례들이 많은 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 사례 분석을 토대로 놀이기능이 적용된 유아용 가구에 유아의 안전성을 고려한 소재사용과 유아가구에적합한 색채와 모티브를 사용한 텍스타일 디자인을개발하였고, 이를 통해 유아가구의 안전성, 기능성, 심미성을 포함한 디자인적 발전에 기여할 수 있을 것이다.
따라서 본 연구는 신체적 발달과 정서 및 인성의발달 등이 활발히 일어나는 유아기의 특징에 적합한유아용 가구의 개발의 중요성과 필요성을 인식하고,특히 디자인의 독창성과 안전성을 확대할 수 있는 방안으로 섬유소재의 사용과 텍스타일디자인의 적용의필요성을 제시하는 것이 연구목적이다. 따라서 유아용가구에 대한 이론적 고찰과 사례 분석을 통한 형태와색 그리고 소재의 적용은 실생활에서 가구를 가장 가까이 접하고 있는 아이들의 정서적 발달과 미적 발달에 직접적인 영향을 미칠 것이라 생각되어진다.

영어초록

The low birth rate and increased quality of lifethese days naturally resulted in increased the level ofcare and affection to the kids, as well as material growthof investment and quality of the industries targeted tothe kids in general. The furniture market for them isno longer viewed as a niche market for the handful ofcustomers who are sensitive to the trend, but as anindependent, sustainable market after a series ofquantitative and qualitative expansions and growth. Inthis regard, the need for a study specialized in theanalysis of the characteristics of the kids anddevelopment of the kind of furniture that is relevant tosuch characteristics has arisen apparently.
The kids are defined as children aged 3 to 7, whichis a critical period when the foundation of characters ofthe children is formed. The developmentalcharacteristics of the kids include rapid physicaldevelopment due to increased motor capabilities,differentiation and vivid manifestation of all emotions,formation of social attitudes of various kinds fromrelationships with other persons around, anddevelopment of the cognitive capabilities from theirexperience and learning. Once the children become five,they begin to understand the shapes and colors and showinterest in various colors. Therefore, it would be helpfulfor the development of their body, mind, cognitiveabilities, and social skills if furniture with suitablecharacteristics for this particular developmental phaseof the kids.
As the furniture for the kids affect the developmentin many ways and are in frequent physical contactswith them, it is important to consider the safety of thefurniture as the priority, along with considerations ofthe designs that can satisfy the desires and curiosity.
Using appropriate colors and images on the furniturethat is located in the space where the kids spend mostof their time would assist their esthetical sense andemotional development. As for the colors and shapespreferred by the kids, they recognize the color beforethe shapes, and the warm colors with high saturationare preferred over other colors. It is also apparent thatthey prefer animal shapes with friendly images andsimplified images in terms of the shapes. In addition,the selection of the material for the furniture is also ofgreat importance, as the kids recognize things bytouching and feeling and show psychological reactionsto textures. Therefore, adding textile materials of softfeelings in addition to the cold, hard materials of wood,plastic, and metal can help providing psychologicalcomfort to them, as well as functional and safety relatedadvantages.
In order to examine the possibility and necessityof applying textile materials to the toddler’s furniture,16 well-known Korean and foreign toddler’s furniturebrands were picked and analyzed the characteristics oftheir products applying textile materials. The result ofthe analysis showed that a large proportion of theseproducts utilized cotton, which is one of the naturalfabric materials and had both of the resting and playingfunctions combined in a single product, which wasapparently in consideration of the characteristics of thekids. The dominant color among these products waspink, which is one of the most profound kinds of warmcolors, with motifs of simple shapes and geometricalpatterns such as stripes. In addition, many casesinvolved use of the designs inspired by natural objects.
The case analysis worked as the basis for thedevelopment of the textile design using colors andmotifs appropriate for the children, with considerationsfor the safety of the kids as well. It is expected thatthe outcome of this study will contribute to thedevelopment of sound designs for kids’ furniture inconsideration of safety, functions, and esthetics.
Therefore, the purpose of this study is to suggest the need and importance of applying textile materialsand textile designs with a view to extent the originalityand stability of the designs, as well as the recognitionof the overall importance and necessity of thedevelopment of the furniture for kids that suits thecharacteristics of the kids. For this reason, it isanticipated that the application of the shapes, colors, andmaterials based on the theoretical examinations andcase analysis on the furniture for kids would affect theemotional and esthetical development of the childrenwho are in constant contact with them in real-life.
