회화 표현 개념의 하부구조로서의 채색 의욕에 관하여 - 전국진한시대 회화를 중심으로 (A Study on the Coloring Desire as a Substructure of Coloring Expression Concept - based on paintings from Warring Qin-Han Empire Period)

초록

중국 화단은 신석기시대부터 9세기까지 채색화가 주도해왔다. 따라서 중국회화의 고유성은 수묵화보다는 채색화에서 보다 직접적인 해석의 자료를 얻을 수 있다.
중국 채색화는 신석기시대에 이미 광범위한 지역에 걸쳐 조성되었고, 상주시대를 거쳐 전국시대에는 채색 및 선묘 표현법 등에서 새로운 발전의 전기를 마련하였다. 그리고 진한시대에는 이러한 힘을 토대로 후대 표현법 유형의 대부분을 출현시키는 성과를 거두었다.
이와 같은 중국회화 발전사는 전국진한시대 회화가 중국 채색화 발전사에서 얼마나 중요한 위치에 있는지, 그리고 중국 초기 회화 미학의 형성에서 이 시기의 회화적 사고와 인식이 얼마나 중요한 역할을 했는지를 가늠케 한다.
본 연구는 이러한 점에 주목하여 채색화 발달사에서 중요한 계기를 마련한 전국진한시대의 회화자료를 통해 채색화 표현의 하부구조로서의 채색 의욕의 문제를 검토하고자 하였다. 그리고 이러한 분석을 토대로 당시 회화에서 채색을 대하는 기본 인식에 관해 당위적으로 파악하고자 하였다. 당위적 파악이 이루어지지 않는다면 새롭게 대두하는 가변적인 요소들을 어떠한 관점에서 수용하고 해석해갈지 그 범주와 방향의 설정이 분명해질 수 없기 때문이다.
검토는 전국시대와 진한시대로 나누어 진행하였으며, 가능하면 그 시대를 대표하는 회화자료, 즉 전국시대의 경우 칠화와 채색 도기 등을, 진한시대의 경우 칠화, 백화, 벽화 등을 포함시키고자 하였다.
검토결과 전국시대에는 서주시대까지 지속해온 적극적인 채색 의욕과 채색 지향적 표현개념을 그대로 지속한 것으로 파악되었다. 즉 중요한 도상에 채색 의욕을 보다 적극 반영하고, 경제력이 클수록 채색 의욕의 추구와 실현치가 높게 나타나는 것으로 파악되었다. 그리고 경제력이 상당한 경우에도 채색 의욕의 실현에 많은 제약을 받는 것으로 보아 여전히 안료 수급에 많은 어려움을 겪는 것으로 파악되었다. 즉 채색화시대에 채색을 제약하는 주요 원인의 하나를 보다 구체적으로 확인해낼 수 있었다.
진한시대에도 기본적으로는 전국시대에 보인 채색의 입장과 제약 요인을 그대로 안고 간 것으로 파악되었다. 특히 하나의 도상 안에서 보여준 채색 의욕 실현의 차이는 채색 지향적 표현 개념을 보다 분명히 인식하는데 결정적인 자료를 제공해주었다.

영어초록

Chinese flower bed has been led by a colored picture(painting) from the Neolithic Age to 9th century. Therefore, direct interpretation data for characteristics of Chinese painting can be obtained through colored picture than ink-and-wash painting.
Chinese colored pictures were already created in Neolithic Era throughout wide area, and a turning point of new development was constructed in color and drawing expression throughout the Sangju(商周) Period and in the age of civil wars. Also in Qin-Han(秦漢) Empire Periods , there was a big success in bringing most of future expression type based on such ground.
As said, development of Chinese painting helped to guess how important Warring Qin-Han(戰國秦漢) Empire Periods paintings were in Chinese paining development, and to estimate how pictorial thinking and awareness of this period played important role in formation of Chinese early painting theory.
This study intends to examine problems of coloring desire as an infrastructure of painting expression through pictorial data of Warring Qin-Han Empire Periods that has provided important opportunity in colored picture history. Also, based on such analysis, this study intended to study basic recognition on how paintings treated coloring. It is because if normative recognition cannot be made, then setting up the range and direction of interpreting and accepting variable elements from certain point of view that are being newly coming into the limelight becomes ambiguous.
The review was progressed in two parts of the age of civil wars and Qin-Han Empire Periods, and if possible, this study tried to include painting references, such as lacquer painting and painted pottery for the age of civil wars and lacquer painting and mural painting for Qin-Han Empire Periods.
Examination results discovered that the age of civil wars continued active coloring desire and coloring-oriented expression concept as they have been continued on until Western-Chou(西周) Period. In other words, it is proven that the more coloring desire is actively reflected on important roads and have bigger competitive power, the higher the pursuit and realization of coloring desire. Also when competitive power is significant, it was discovered that the supply and demand of paint is still going through much difficulty as too many conditions are set up in realizing coloring desire. Meaning, it was possible to specifically realize one of main reasons that restrict coloring in the coloring era.
Situations and constraint factors of coloring that were apparent in the age of civil wars were basically carried on as they are even in Qin-Han Empire Periods. Specially, the difference in realizing coloring desire displayed on one of the roads provided a decisive data in understanding coloring-oriented expression concept more clearly.
