신라 상고기 왕위계승연구의 세대 연구방법론 모색을 위한 시론—나물왕의 왕위계승을 중심으로— (A Study on the Methodology of the Generation of the Study of the succession to the throne in the early ancient Shilla Dynasty)

초록

본 연구는 신라 상고기의 왕위계승을 바라봄에 있어 세대 연구방법론의 적용 가능성을 모색하기 위해 시도되었다. 기존에도 ‘세대’를 활용한 왕위계승 연구가 몇 차례 시도되었으나, 세대 개념에 대한 정의와 범주에 대한 설정이 규정되지 않은 채 친족계보상의 제한적 의미의 개념만이 사용되었다. 또한 하나의 세대를 30년으로 규정하여 세대수를 계산하는 방식은 관행적으로 사용하던 방법이었다는 점에서 문제가 있었다.
본 연구에서는 세대의 개념과 그 범주를 설정하고 주로 사회학 분야에서 연구되었던 세대 이론을 소개함으로써 신라 상고기 왕위계승 연구에서의 적용 가능성을 탐색하였다. 이때 나물왕을 대상으로 삼은 것은 그의 왕위계승이 김씨 왕위계승의 확립이란 시발점이 되는 사건이었을 뿐만 아니라 관련 기록에서 혈연관계와 생몰연대 간의 시간적 간극이 오히려 기존에 혈연과 가계 위주로 연구되어 온 경향성으로부터 자유로울 수 있는 점도 작용했다.
나물왕 집단은 김씨의 조상계보 설정이라는 세대 엔텔레키를 창출해냄으로써 세대위치에서 실제세대로 나아갈 수 있었고, 구체적 계보설정을 통한 세대단위로까지 발전하면서 왕위를 계승할 수 있었다. 그 과정에서 세대 엔텔레키를 창출해내지 못한 세대는 이전 혹은 이후의 세대에 편입됨으로 인해 후대 전승 과정에서 누락되었을 가능성을 상정하였다. 이로 인해 미추왕과 나물왕의 즉위 사이에 100년 이상의 간극에도 불구하고 나물왕이 미추왕의 사위로 기록된 것이라는 추정을 할 수 있었다.
나물왕의 왕위계승은 여러 집단들의 경제적⋅군사적⋅문화적⋅사상적 측면 등을 비롯한 다양한 측면도 함께 고려해야 함에도 본 연구에서는 미처 다루지 못하였다. 이와 관련해서는 향후 과제에서 다룰 예정이다. 그럼에도 신라 상고기 왕위계승을 연구함에 있어 세대 연구방법론은 유효한 분석 도구가 될 것이라 생각한다.

영어초록

This study was attempted to explore the applicability of the generation research methodology in looking at the succession to the throne in the ancient Shilla Dynasty. Several previous studies have also attempted to examine the succession to the throne using ‘generation’, but there was a problem in that only the concept of generation in a limited sense of relative genealogy was used without specifying a specific definition of the concept of generation and setting the category.
For this reason, this study established the concept of generation and its categories, and introduced generation theory that had been discussed up to Karl Mannheim. Through this, we tried to analyse the applicability of ‘generation’ in the study of the succession to the throne in the ancient Shilla Dynasty. In the process, his succession to the throne was the starting point for the establishment of the Kim family’s succession to the throne, and the fact that the temporal gap between the blood ties and the birth and death dates confirmed in the records related to King Naemul was rather a person who could be free from the tendency to be studied mainly on blood ties and households.
By creating a generation entellecki called Kim’s ancestral genealogy setting, the group of the King Naemul was able to move from a generational position to a real generation and succeed to the throne by developing to a generational unit through specific genealogy setting. In the process, it was assumed that the generation that failed to create generation entellecki was omitted in the process of future transmission due to being incorporated into the previous or later generations. As a result, it could be assumed that the King Naemul was recorded as the son-in-law of the King Michu, even though there was a time difference of more than 100 years between the ascension of King Michu and the King Naemul.
According to the above, it was judged that the generation research methodology would be a valid analysis tool in studying the succession to the throne of the ancient Shilla Dynasty. Nevertheless, when looking at the succession to the throne of the King Naemul, various aspects, including the economic, military, cultural, and ideological aspects of various groups, including the King Naemul, must be considered together, but this study was not covered. This will be covered in future tasks.
