<옹고집전>의 이본과 변모 양상 연구 (Study on Different Versions and Changing Patterns of )

초록

본 논의는 <옹고집전> 17종에 대한 이본 연구이다. 새로 추가된 7종의 이본들을 통해 전체 이본들 간의 계열과 특징을 더욱 분명히 살펴볼 수 있었다. 여기서는 화소의 변화를 바탕으로 이본을 (가) (나) (다) 계열로 나누고 (나) 계열의 이본을 다시 창본 계열과 소설 계열로 세분하여 살펴보았다. 이들 계열은 대체로 시간적 순차를 두고 진행된 것으로 보이며, 노모 박대 화소가 첨가된 (나) 계열에서 점차 소설적 경사가 이루어지고 있음을 알 수 있다.
(가) 계열에서는 승려 학대를 중심으로 전개되고 판소리적 문체가 많이 살아있음을 확인할 수 있다. 이 계열에서는 진옹의 개과보다는 ‘골려주기’에 그 주제가 집중되어 있었다고 보인다.
(나) 계열에서는 창본적 성격을 유지하고 있는 이본과 소설화 경향을 보이고 있는 이본들로 분화가 일어났다. 이 계열에서는 향유층들이 원하는 주인공의 모습이 ‘착한 심성을 가진 도덕적 인간형’이라고 할 수 있다. 여기서는 가족공동체 내의 긴밀하고 화목한 관계가 그려지고 있고 아내의 역할이 매우 중요하게 다루어지고 있다. 옹고집이 개과하는 주 내용은 가족공동체로의 복귀에 대한 소망이었다. 따라서 이 시기는 ‘옹고집의 교정을 통한 가족공동체로의 복귀’가 주된 주제였다고 할 수 있다.
(다) 계열에서는 여러 화소가 통합되어 가면서 지명과 신분, 서사가 일정한 변모를 겪고 있음을 알 수 있다. 이 계열에서는 골려주기식의 골계적 묘사가 축소되고, 아내의 역할 역시 축소되어 품팔이 장면 이후로는 사라진다. 옹고집의 패륜을 확대하고 그에 대한 처벌이 길게 늘어나며, 도승의 훈계가 많아지고 있다. 따라서 후기 계열에서는 ‘옹고집에 대한 처벌과 교화’가 그 중심 주제가 되었다고 볼 수 있다.
<옹고집전>의 이본은 매우 다양한 형상으로 전개되어 왔다. 그리고 불도(佛道)의 문제에서 가족공동체의 문제, 악인에 대한 처벌과 교화로 그 주제와 화소가 변화해 왔다. 그러나 건강한 주제적 대안을 내놓지 못하였다는 점, 안동이 지역적 배경인 판소리라는 점 등에서 점차 창을 잃고 소설화되었을 것으로 정리할 수 있다.

영어초록

This thesis is concerned about 17 versions of <Onggojipjeon>. Through the seven newly-included versions of the work, the study could examine categories and characteristics of each of the versions even more carefully. In this study, the different versions of <Onggojipjeon> were categorized into Group (가), (나) and (다) and regarding Group (나), the study again divided it, in detail, into Category Pansori and Fiction. Those categories were considered to be processed at some intervals, by the passage of time, and in Group (나) with a scene of the poorly-treated aged mother included, the study learned that this work, <Onggojipjeon>, has finally added some fictional events.
In Group (가), the story develops mainly by an event with the monk being ill-treated and here, many of pansory styles were discovered. In this group, the study could observe that the group would be interested more in playing tricks on Onggojip than showing us how Onggojip becomes a good man.
When it comes to Group (나), there found those different versions with Pansori characteristics included and other different versions with fictional elements included. This group believes that readers want the main character in this work to be 'a moral human with good intentions'. Here, the story tells a lot about close, friendly relationships of family members and, roles of a wife are being emphasized very much importantly. How Onggojip changes into a good man is described mainly by his wish to be with his family again. Hence, during this time, 'Onggojip's returning to his family as he becomes a good man' was regarded to be the main topic.
In Group (다), many other incidents were integrated together and it eventually gave some changes into names of places, social positions and narrations. This group would be less interested in describing how Onggojip is being tricked while it would not give much weight on the roles of the wife either. Actually, the roles of the wife would not be discussed again after the day-labor scene. Immorality of Onggojip would be described even more greatly in this group and how he gets punished was one of the main stories. The monk in this group would also give Onggojip more lectures comparing to those in other groups. Considering that, this late group is believed to be more into 'punishments to Onggojip and how he changes into a good man'.
The different versions of <Onggojipjeon> have been developing with very much different patterns. In addition, the topics and other supporting incidents have also changed from teachings of Buddha to issues of the family and punishments to a bad man and also, how this man becomes good. However, those versions failed to present any healthy solutions about all those topics and since they were all pansori with An-dong as a background, this <Onggjojipjeon> had eventually lost its song characteristics but became more like a work of fiction.
