韓半島 出土 水晶多面玉의 展開樣相과 特徵 (The Development and Characteristics of the Polyhedral Crystal Beads Excavated from the Korean Peninsula)

초록

원삼국시대 분묘유적에서 확인되는 다양한 색상의 옥 중에서 무색투명한 수정제 옥의 등장과 한반도동남부지역에 집중된 수정제 옥의 출토량은 학자들의 눈길을 끌었다. 이와 함께 한반도 서북부지역 낙랑의 분묘유적에서 동일한 형태와 재질의 다면옥이 확인되었다. 이러한 사실은 일반적으로 수정제 옥이 낙랑과의 교역품 또는 제작기법의 유입으로 재지에서 제작한 것이라 이해되어 왔다.
그러나 유물 자체에 대한 검토가 충분히 선행되지 않아 한반도 내 수정다면옥의 등장과 소멸, 제작기법등 기초적인 부분의 연구가 미흡한 편이다. 따라서 본 논문은 수정다면옥 자체에 대한 구체적인 검토를통해 형태, 제작기법, 출토양상 등의 특징을 도출하고, 한반도에서 출토되는 수정다면옥의 전개양상을확인해 보고자 하였다.
수정다면옥 그 자체는 형태적 특징과 제작기법적 특징을, 출토양상에서는 시간성과 공간성을 반영하며지역적으로도 차이가 나타난다. 따라서 수정다면옥의 형태적·제작기법적 특징과 공반유물을 통해 검토하였을 때, 다음과 같은 전개양상을 확인할 수 있다.
수정다면옥은 기원전 2세기 후반 한반도 서북부지역에서 가장 먼저 확인되며 기원후 1세기 말~2세기까지 형태적·제작기법적 변화 없이 지속적으로 사용된다. 약간의 공백을 가진 뒤 2세기 중엽 이후 이전과 형태적으로 차이가 있는 수정다면옥이 한반도 동남부·서남부지역에서 출현한다. 서남부지역의경우 수정다면옥의 출토량이 미비하며 별다른 특징을 보이지 않는 반면에, 동남부지역의 경우 다양한형태의 수정다면옥과 수정제 옥이 확인된다. 기원후 3세기 중·후엽 다면옥의 출토량이 급격히 증가하며 가장 완성된 형태의 수정제 장신구들이 제작된다. 4세기 이후 수정다면옥의 출토량이 급감하는데,이는 4세기 이후 유리구슬로 제작된 장신구가 급격히 증가하는 현상으로 보아 다종다양한 유리제 장신구가 수정제 장신구를 대체한 것으로 생각된다.

영어초록

Amongst the various colored beads that have been excavated from thetombs of the Proto-Three Kingdoms Period, there exist the transparent crystalbeads. These polyhedral crystal beads have been found concentrated in thesoutheastern region of the Korean Peninsula. The same polyhedral crystal beadshave also been discovered in the Nakrang (Lelang) tombs of the northwestregion of the Korean Peninsula.
These beads have been the subject of much attention and they are seento have been obtained through trade or manufactured indigenously accordingto the production techniques that were introduced into the region. However,as previous studies of the polyhedral crystal beads have been insufficient, thisstudy aims to identify the characteristics relating to form and manufacturingtechnique through a specific examination of these beads. Through this, areview of the development of the polyhedral crystal beads excavated from theKorean Peninsula is attempted. In looking at this in conjunction with associatedarchaeological material, the following nature of development can be identified.
Polyhedral crystal beads first appeared in the northwest region of theKorean Peninsula in the late 2nd century BCE. Then, it was consistently usedwithout change of shape and manufacturing method from the late 1st centuryCE to the 2nd century CE. Following the mid-2nd century CE, polyhedralcrystal beads different from those used before began to appear in the southeastand southwest regions of the Korean Peninsula. In the case of the southwestregion, only a small amount of polyhedral crystal beads were excavated andthey had no particular distinguishing features. On the other hand, various formsof polyhedral crystal beads have been discovered in the southeast region. Thenumber of excavated beads dating to the 3rd century CE increased sharply and the most complete types of crystal accessories were produced around thistime. A rapid decrease can be observed in the excavated amount of polyhedralcrystal beads dating to the 4th century and beyond. An accordance with this, thenumber of glass beads increased rapidly from the 4th century. It is believed thatglass beads of various types and colors replaced the crystal accessories.
