초록

이 논문은 19세기 경상우도에서 학문적 증흥기에 활동한 학자인 흘와 이근옥의 생애와 교유양상을 고찰한 글이다. 흘와의 집안은 남명학파와 연관성을 살필 수 있는 가학의 전통이 있었지만, 흘와는 정치적으로 남명학파가 몰락한 시기에 태어났다. 그는 퇴계학의 적통인 정재 유치명과 성재 허전 양문을 출입하면서 남인 계열이 되었고, 정내석, 장복추, 이진상, 이종기 등 당대의 퇴계학파의 유학자들과 교유하였다. 흘와는 이처럼 가학과 사승의 연원 관계에서 학문을 성장시켰다. 그의 학문은 『흘와집(吃窩集)』 가운데 구현되어 있는데, 여기서는 서문과 발문을 비롯하여 가장과 유사, 행장과 묘도문자 등의 전기적 자료 및 관련 시문(詩文)을 고찰하면서 흘와 이근옥의 생애와 교유양상을 파악하고 그 학문의 의미를 탐색했다.
흘와는 젊은 시절에 유치명을 찾아가서 실천적인 가르침을 받았지만, 허전이 김해부사로 부임한 뒤에 허전의 문하에서 오직 한 분의 스승만을 섬겼고, 특히 허전의 학문에서 큰 영향을 받았다.
본 논문에서는 흘와집을 분석하고 그의 학문을 문학과 경학으로 대별했다. 흘와는 문학에 대해 사장적 문장을 배격하였고, 문학의 실제성을 추구하였다. 경학적 논쟁에 대한 관심도 있었지만, 경학 중에서도 예학, 특히 허전이 정립한 심의제도에 대한 실용적 측면을 중시하였고, 심의의 지결을 전수받았다고 평가되었다. 이처럼 흘와는 가학과 허전의 학문을 계승하면서 학행(學行)이 일치하는 실천적인 면모를 보여주었다.
그의 학문은 퇴계학에 대한 확신에서 발출되었고, 특히 한미성순(寒眉星順)의 적통으로 평가되는 성재의 학문은 흘와의 학문과 교유관계에 지대한 영향을 미쳤다. 흘와는 퇴계 학통의 많은 학자들, 즉 정내석, 장복추, 이진상, 이종기 등 퇴계학 연원가의 학자들과 교유하면서 퇴계학의 통서를 계승하기 위한 실천적 학문을 추구한 학자였다.

This thesis examines the life and interaction patterns of Hlwa Lee Geun-Ok, a scholar who was active during the academic rise in Gyeongsang-woo-do in the 19th century. Hlwa's family had a tradition of family studies that could be related to the Nammyong school, but Hlwa's era was born during the political fall of the Nammyong school. Hlwa became a Namin(南人) family by entering and exiting both gates of Jeong jae Yu Chi-Myeong and Seongjae HeoJeon, enemies of Toegye Studies. Hlwa interacted with the Confucian scholars of the Toegye school of the time, such as Jeong Nae-Seok, Jang Bok-Chu, Lee Jin-Sang, and Lee Jong-Ki. In this way, Hlwa developed the study in the relationship between the Gahak(家學) and the teacher. His studies are implemented in 『Hlwa's collection of writings(吃窩集)』, where he grasped the life and exchange aspects of Hlwa Lee Geun-Ok and explored the meaning of his studies by analyzing various poems including the preface and questionnaire, biographical data such as Haengjang and Myodo characters. Hlwa visited Yu Chi-Myeong in his youth and received practical teaching, but after HeoJeon was appointed as Gimhae Busa, Hlwa served only one teacher under HeoJeon's command, and was particularly influenced by HeoJeon's studies. Hlwa's studies were broadly divided into literature and pedagogy. Hlwa rejected presidential sentences about literature and sought the practicality of literature. There was also interest in pedagogical debate, but among pedagogy, Yehak(禮學), especially the practical aspect of the deliberation system established by HeoJeon, was emphasized, and it was evaluated that he received the knowledge of the deliberation. In this way, Hlwa showed a practical aspect in which the academic practices were consistent while inheriting the studies of Gahak and HeoJeon. His studies came from confidence in Toegye, and Sungjae's studies, evaluated as the legitimate line of descent. of Han mi Sung soon (寒眉星順), had a profound influence on Hlwa's studies and relationships. Hlwa was a scholar who pursued practical studies to inherit the Tongseo of Toegye while interacting with many scholars of Toegye Academy, such as Jeong Nae-Seok, Jang Bok-Chu, Lee Jin-Sang, and Lee Jong-Ki. Hlwa maintained a relationship of private life under the perspective of Toegyehak, and expanded the perspective of literature and Yehak through interaction with teacher and friend. This interest of Hlwa made him recognized as one of the most respected scholars of the Sungjae School as a scholar who practiced studies, not as a theorist in the reality of the time. He is a Confucian scholar who practiced traditional and Confucian values, and Hlwa's studies are now considered to deserve a new evaluation.
