교과서 동요․동시 정전화(正典化) 연구－미군정기~교수요목기를 중심으로－ (A Study on canonizing of Children’s Songs and Poems in Elementary School Textbooks －Focused on U.S. military government period ~ syllabus period－)

초록

본고는 미군정기에서 교수요목기까지 연구 범위를 설정하여 초등 교과서에 수록된 동요․동시의 정전화 과정을 실증적으로 고찰하였다. 이 시기는 동요․동시 교육정전 형성의 출발점이 된다는 점에서 역사적인 의미를 지닌다고 하겠다. 정전화의 특징은 다음과 같다.
먼저 우리말과 글에 대한 열망이 강했던 미군정기는 ‘새 나라 만들기’와 민족의식의 앙양이 시대적 과제로 떠올랐다. 이 시기 동요시인의 명성을 확보하고 있던 윤석중의 「새 나라의 어린이」가 1학년 음악교과서 첫 자리에 실리게 된다. 또한 음악교과서에는 좌, 우 작가들의 작품이 함께 수록된 점이다. 이들의 작품은 좌우 갈등이나 이데올로기적 경향성에 관계없이 대체로 ‘자연’, ‘놀이’, ‘고향’ 등의 아동들의 정서적인 친화의 대상을 다루고 있으며 밝고 아름답고 씩씩한 동심의 세계를 그리고 있다는 공통성을 지닌다.
둘째, 일제에 의해 간행된 『보통학교 조선어독본』에 실린 동요들이 『초등 국어교본』(1945~1946)에 반복 수록된 점을 들 수 있다. 이런 현상은 해방이 되었으나 교과서 편찬에 대한 새로운 상상력을 펼치지 못하고 과거 일제가 강조했던 덕목을 그대로 되풀이 한 것으로 볼 수 있다.
셋째, 정부수립 이후 전시기를 거치며 ‘국어’교과는 의도적인 제재의 배치로 특정한 주제를 연속적으로 전달하는 제재 수록 및 선정의 논리를 드러낸다. 국가의식 혹은 애국심을 고취하는 시 제재들은 비문학 제재를 통해 전쟁과 반공의 당위성을 알고 반공이라는 이념과 규율을 일상적으로 내면화하게 한다.

영어초록

The purpose of this paper is to empirically investigate the canonization process of children’s songs and poems included in elementary textbooks once the scope of research is set from the U.S. military government period to the syllabus period. Since this period is the starting point of forming the canonization of education of children’s literature, it has historical significance. The canonization is characterized as follows.
First, in the period of U.S. military government with high desire for talking and writing Korean language, ‘creation of a new country’ and enhancement of national consciousness emerged as the contemporary challenge. “Children in a new country” of Yoon, Seok Jung who was a renowned poet of children’s poems was put on the first section in a music textbook for the first grader. In addition, another noteworthy point was that works of many artists from the right wing and the left wing were equally contained in music textbooks. These works generally dealt with the subjects of children’s emotional affinity such as ‘nature’, ‘play’ and ‘hometown’ and sang the bright, beautiful, and energetic world of childhood regardless of conflicts between the right and the left wings or ideological tendencies.
Second, children’s songs which had been contained in “Korean language textbook in the elementary school” which had been published by the Japanese government were repeatedly included in “elementary Korean language textbook” (1945~1946). Which had been emphasized by Japanese government were repeated in compilation of textbooks, even though Korea was liberated.
Third, “Korean language” textbooks showed logics to include and select materials to continuously deliver a particular subject by placing intentional texts while it was passed through the Korean war after the establishment of government. Materials of poems to inspire the nationalism or patriotism informed people of justification of war and anti-communism through non-literature materials and routinely internalized the ideology and discipline of anti-communism.
