바이오 기술을 활용한 대체 패션 소재의 사례와 가치에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Case and Value of Alternative Fashion Materials Using Biotechnology)

초록

지속가능성 모색은 섬유 패션 산업의 최대 과제이다.
다양한 방식을 통해 지속가능성이 전개되는 가운데 근래에는 소재 측면에서 바이오 기술과 융합하여 기존 섬유의 대체재이자 유해 물질을 발생하지 않는 생분해 소재가 주목받고 있으며, 세계 각국의 관련 기업이나 패션 브랜드에서는 대체 소재 개발을 위한 자체 연구와협업을 진행하고 있다. 이에 본 연구의 목적은 바이오기술을 사용한 대체 패션 소재의 활용 사례를 파악하여, 앞으로 지속 가능한 패션의 저변 확대에 도움을 주고자 한 것이다. 이를 위해 대체 패션 소재의 등장 배경과 동향에 관한 문헌 고찰, 바이오 기술과 융합한 대체패션 소재의 활용 사례 연구로 진행하였다.
연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 대체 패션 소재 등장은지속가능성에 관한 요구, 윤리적 측면에서 동물복지와관련한 비거니즘 확산, 바이오 기술 발전이 요인으로파악되었다. 바이오 기술을 사용한 대체 패션 소재는박테리아, 균사체, 식물, 조류, 폐 식재료를 비롯해 신체에서 발생하는 땀, 소 배설물, 토양, 동물 조직 세포등 다양한 재료가 활용되었으며, 활용 재료에 따라 차이는 있으나 가죽, 실크, 면, 플라스틱 등 기존 패션소재와 같은 물성은 물론 더 뛰어난 기능과 성능을 지니고 다시 자연으로 환원될 수 있는 생분해성의 특징을 나타냈다. 이러한 대체 소재는 지속가능성을 위한 혁신성, 바이오 패션의 예술적 미학 구현, 융합 디자인의 활성화를 도모한다는 점에서 가치를 지닌다.
패션과 바이오 기술의 융합은 지속 가능 모색을 위한 혁신적 방안인 동시에 다양한 문제를 해결해야 하는 큰 도전이기도 하다. 진화하는 바이오 기술과 지속가능성에 관한 요구가 확대되는 가운데 본 연구가 바이오 기술 기반의 대체 패션 소재 개발과 디자인 적용 활성화에 도움이 되기를 기대한다.

영어초록

Sustainability search is the biggest challenge for the textile and fashion industry. As sustainability is being developed through various methods, biodegradable materials that do not generate harmful substances and replace existing fibers in terms of materials have recently attracted attention, and related companies and fashion brands around the world are conducting their own research and collaboration to develop alternative materials. The purpose of this study is to identify use cases of alternative fashion materials combined with biotechnology and to help expand the base of sustainable fashion in the future. To this end, literature on the background and trend of the emergence of alternative fashion materials and a case study of the use of alternative fashion materials combined with biotechnology.
The research results are as follows. The emergence of alternative fashion materials was identified as a factor in the demand for sustainability, the spread of veganism in relation to animal welfare from an ethical perspective, and the development of biotechnology. Alternative fashion materials using biotechnology are made of a variety of materials, including bacteria, mycelium, plants, algae, waste food materials, sweat generated from the body, cow excrement, soil, and animal tissue cells. Although there are differences depending on the material used, it has the same physical properties as existing fashion materials such as leather, silk, cotton, and plastic, as well as superior function and performance, and has the characteristic of being biodegradable and can be returned to nature. These alternative materials are valuable in that they promote innovation for sustainability, realize the artistic aesthetics of bio fashion, and revitalize convergence design.
The convergence of fashion and biotechnology is an innovative way to find sustainability, but it is also a big challenge that requires solving various problems.
As demands for evolving biotechnology and sustainability expand, we hope that this research will help develop alternative fashion materials fused with biotechnology and revitalize design applications.
