『근예준선(近藝雋選)』의 서지적 연구 (A Study on the Compilation of the GeunYeJunSeon(『近藝雋選』))

초록

본고에서 연구한 『근예준선』은 18세기에 편찬된 과체시(科體詩) 선집이다. 『근예준선』에 대한 연구는 금세기 초부터 본격적으로 시작되었다. 선행 학자들은 선집의 편찬 시기와 편찬목적을 모두 언급하고 분석하였으나 선집 원본에 대한 추정은 언급되어 있지 않았다. 더구나 추정한 편찬 시기는 넓은 시간적 범위이기 때문에 후속연구, 특히 편찬목적의 연구를 진행함에 있어 모호하거나 확실하지 않은 점이 불가피하다. 따라서 본고에서는 선행연구를 바탕으로, 11종 판본의 비교‧분석하여 선집의 기본적 짜임새를 구명하고 편찬 시기와 편찬목적을 추론하였다.
이 연구를 통해 선집 원본의 기본적 짜임새는 표제‧서문‧작자목록‧본문으로 구성된 것을 추정하고, 11종 판본 중에서 장서각본이 원본에 가장 가까운 판본임을 밝혔다. 그리고 선집은 영조(英祖) 연간의 “나주괘서사건(羅州掛書事件)” 이후, 1755년에 열린 상시(庠試)와 1756년에 열린 도회시(都會試) 사이에 편찬된 것으로 추정된다. ‘나주괘서사건’의 발생은 남인에게 조선 조당에 다시 등장할 수 있는 정치적인 계기가 되었고, 정치적 지위를 다시 취득함으로서 규제의 완화이기도 하였다. 따라서 과체시의 실력이 수험생의 과거 입사(入仕) 능력을 어느 정도 대표할 수 있었던 당시에 남인 소장파는 이를 통해 조선 권력자나 정쟁 파벌에게 그들의 과거 능력을 보여주는 것은 순리적인 일이다. 나아가 이 선집은 당시 젊은 남인들의 정치적 포부가 반영된 과체시 명편 선집이라고 할 수 있다.

영어초록

The GeunYeJunSeon studied in this paper is a collection of Joseon imperial examination poems compiled in the 18th century. It can be said that the study of the GeunYeJunSeon began formally at the beginning of this century. Although various scholars have examined and analyzed the period and purpose of compilation of this collection, the inferred compilation period is too general and the time frame is long, which brings uncertainty to the subsequent study of this collection, especially the study of the purpose of compilation, and the speculation of the original manuscript of this collection has not been covered by any scholars. Based on previous scholarly research, this paper through a comparative analysis of 11 different versions, clarified the basic structure of the original manuscript and made specific inferences about the compilation time and purpose of this collection.
Through the research, it is found that the basic structure of this collection is composed of a title, preface, author’s table of contents, and text. The 11 surviving editions are not the original manuscripts, but the “Jangseogak(藏书阁本)” in the Academy of Korean Studies is the closest to the original manuscript. In addition, this collection was compiled after the “Najubyeokseo Incident” during the reign of Emperor Yeong-jo, and between the Sang Exam(庠試) in1755 and the Dohoe Exam(都會試) in 1756. This event was a political opportunity for the Namin to re-enter the Joseon court and regain their political status. At the time, the strength of the imperial examination poetry could represent the candidates’ ability to enter the imperial examinations. Therefore, it is only logical that the young adults of the Namin would take this opportunity to show their ability to engage in politics to the Joseon court and its rival factions through this collection. In turn, this collection can be defined as an anthology of famous imperial examinations reflecting the political aspirations of the Namin of the time.
