지구온난화에 대한 영성학적 고찰 (A Reflection on the Global Crisis Caused by Global Warming in the Light of Christian Spirituality)

초록

이 논문은 전 세계적으로 악화되는 지구 온난화 문제를 영성학적으로 고찰한 것이다. 온난화 문제는 개개인의 참여가 없이는 해결이 쉽지 않기에 신자 개인들이 성령 안에서의 삶을 통해 온난화 문제에 참여할 수 있는 길을 모색하였다. 이를 위해 먼저 창세기에 나타난 창조에 관한 본문들을 영성학적 관점에서 분석하였다. 그리고 후반부에서 신자들이 피조물에 대한 청지기의 사명을 감당할 수 있는 길을 제시하였다. 먼저, 창세기에 나타난 창조 기사를 네 가지 관점에서 분석하였다. 첫째, 동물들도 땅에 충만하라는 명령에 따라 거주 공간을 차지할 권리가 있으나 인간의 욕심에 의해 그것이 실현되지 못하고 있다. 둘째, 인간은 창조주의 형상대로 지음 받았는데 그것은 피조물과의 관계에서 피조물을 관리하는 청지기의 직분과 관련이 있다. 셋째, 인간은 창조주의 생기를 받아 영적인 존재로 피조 되었기에 창조주와 영적으로 교통할 수 있는 존재이다. 넷째, 인간의 타락으로 인해 땅도 저주를 받아 엉겅퀴와 가시덤불을 낳게 되었다. 지구 온난화 해결을 위한 영성학적 근거로 부활한 예수님이 제자들에게 숨을 불어 넣으며 새로운 창조를 위해 성령을 주었음을 주목하였다. 그래서 그 성령 안에서 지구 온난화 완화를 위한 희망이 있음을 네 가지 측면에서 제시하였다. 첫째, 성령 안에서의 삶을 통해 신자는 자신의 뜻보다는 창조주의 뜻을 좀 더 신실하게 추구할 수 있다. 둘째, 성령 안에서 신자들은 행 2:44-47에 나타난 것처럼 소유보다는 나눔의 삶을 실천할 수 있다. 셋째, 성령 안에서 신자들은 인간적인 결핍을 초월하는 삶을 살 수 있다. 넷째, 친 자연적 삶을 실천한 기독교 영성 전통을 고찰하였다. 특별히 일제시대에 탁월한 영성의 열매를 보여준 이용도 목사가 친 자연적인 동양 사상을 수용함을 통해 서구 영성가들의 교훈 보다 지구 온난화 문제에 좀 더 효과적인 대안이 될 수 있음을 제시하였다. 결론적으로 지구 온난화는 인간의 욕심에 의해 악화되고 있는데 성령 안에서의 삶을 통해 인간은 그 욕심을 극복할 수 있기에 영성적 접근은 온난화 해결을 위한 하나의 대안이 될 수 있다고 사료된다.

영어초록

The global crisis caused by global warming is getting worse and worse around the world. This research aims to suggest some practical solutions for that crisis on an individual level, since it is not easy to resolve issues without the support of individuals. A significant contributor to the crisis is the type of lifestyle that promotes behaviors that increase one’s carbon footprint, such as such as preferring a personal car rather than utilizing mass transportation. The questions, then, is how we can inspire people to live a life that enhances the health of the environment but is somewhat inconvenient? According to the Scripture, God created the world and was very satisfied with His creation. Therefore, developing a personal relationships with God also encourages the voluntary adoption of a lifestyle that is beneficial for the environment. To that purpose, this research begins with a reflection of Genesis in regards to the creation of human beings and creatures, after which some practical methods are offered as suggestions on how individuals can combat global warming during their own spiritual growth. The relevance of Genesis to the issue of global warming and individual responsibility is encapsulated in four parts. First, animals were blessed to be bountiful on Earth, which means they have the right of habitation but have been denied it because of human greed. Second, God created the first person according to His own image. Most scholars of the Old Testament agree that the image of God includes the mission of mankind as the steward of creation. Third, God injected His breath into the first man after He bore him from the soil. As the result, only human beings can communicate with God and live a life following God’s will. Fourth, the soil began to produce thorns against humans after the fall of the first man and woman. In the Gospel, Jesus breathed to give the Holy Spirit to his disciples after his resurrection, and it represents new creation. It was the redemptive event not only for human beings but also for creatures, since the way to fulfill the divine mission as the steward of creatures is now possible in the work of the Holy Spirit in each believer’s heart. That is why individual spirituality can be a source of hope in regards to global warming, which is again discussed in four points. First, when believers live in the Holy Spirit, they will be more faithful to their mission as a steward because it is God’s will. Second, they will live a life of sharing with others rather than a life of storing for the self, which was realized in Acts 2: 44-47 as the result of the collective presence of the Holy Spirit. Third, they will live a life of minimal possession because they are satisfied with the presence of God through the Holy Spirit and will not be concerned by the lack of worldly possessions. Finally, the case study of Rev. Yongdo Lee displays the life of an individual who not only showed an exemplary Christian spiritualty but also lived following the teachings of Taoism, which provides.
