초록

본 논문은 현대도시가 직면한 복합적 문제들을 정치경제적, 문화사회적, 도시재생, 도시정치적 차원에서 사유하고, 이를 통해 도시연구의 필요성과 중요성을 강조한다. 1장에서는 도시가 단순한 물리적 공간이 아닌, 사회적 관계와 역사적 맥락이 얽힌 복합체로서의 역할을 서술하며, 도시발전 과정에서 발생하는 사회적 갈등과 불평등 문제를 논의한다. 특히, 도시의 성장과 변화가 특정집단의 권리와 삶의 질에 미치는 영향을 조명하여, 도시정책 수립 시 사회적 정의와 공공성의 중요성을 부각시킨다. 2장에서는 개발과 강제철거 사례를 통해 도시성장의 이면을 조명하며, 상계동 올림픽과 광주대단지 사건을 중심으로 특정집단의 권리 침해 문제를 다룬다. 이러한 사례들은 도시개발이 단순히 공간의 재구성이 아니라, 사회적 관계의 재편성을 수반하며, 이는 도시 내에서 발생하는 다양한 갈등을 심화시킬 수 있음을 시사한다. 3장에서는 장소와 공공성의 관계를 분석하고, 창조도시 및 문화도시의 개념을 통해 도시문화의 사회적 맥락을 탐구한다. 도시가 단순한 물리적 공간이 아니라 인간의 삶과 정체성이 형성되는 장소임을 강조하며, 다양한 사회적 상호작용이 이루어지는 도시공간의 중요성을 언급한다. 이러한 과정에서 공공공간의 질과 접근성이 도시민의 삶의 질에 미치는 영향은 향후 연구에서 더욱 깊이 탐구해야 할 주제로 제시된다. 4장에서는 부산 산복도로 재생 사례를 통해 도시재생의 개념과 주민참여의 중요성을 강조하며, 도시재생이 단순한 물리적 재개발이 아니라 주민의 삶의 질을 향상시키고 지역사회의 활성화를 도모하는 과정이어야 한다는 점을 논의한다. 이를 통해 주민참여가 지속가능한 도시 발전의 필수 요소임을 확인하고, 주민의 목소리가 정책 결정 과정에 반영되어야 함을 주장한다. 5장에서는 도시권리와 저항적 시민권을 통해 시민의 역할과 저항의 중요성을 고찰하며, 공공공간에서의 저항이 민주적 논의와 시민권의 재구성에 기여하는 바를 분석한다. 도시공간에서의 저항은 단순한 반대의 의미를 넘어, 도시의 공공성과 민주성을 회복하기 위한 중요한 수단으로 작용할 수 있음을 강조한다. 이러한 논의는 도시발전 과정에서 시민의 참여가 얼마나 중요한지를 부각시키며, 궁극적으로 모든 시민이 동등하게 참여할 수 있는 포용적인 도시환경을 조성하는 데 기여할 것이다. 본 연구는 도시가 직면한 문제들을 깊이 이해하고, 보다 포용적이며 공정한 도시발전 방향을 모색하는 데 이바지하고자 하며, 도시연구의 새로운 패러다임을 제시하는 데 중요한 역할을 할 것으로 기대된다.

영어초록

This paper contemplates the complex issues faced by modern cities from the perspectives of political economy, cultural sociology, urban regeneration, and urban politics, thereby emphasizing the necessity and importance of urban studies. In Chapter 1, the role of cities is described as a complex entity intertwined with social relations and historical contexts, rather than merely a physical space. The chapter discusses the social conflicts and inequalities arising during urban development processes, particularly highlighting how the growth and changes in cities impact the rights and quality of life of specific groups, thereby underscoring the importance of social justice and publicness in urban policy formulation.
Chapter 2 sheds light on the hidden aspects of urban growth through cases of development and forced eviction, focusing on the Sanggye-dong Olympics and the Gwangju Dae-danji incident to address the issue of rights violations against specific groups. These cases suggest that urban development is not merely a restructuring of space, but also entails a reconfiguration of social relations, which can exacerbate various conflicts within the city.
Chapter 3 analyzes the relationship between place and publicness, exploring the social context of urban culture through the concepts of creative cities and cultural cities. It emphasizes that cities are not just physical spaces but places where human lives and identities are formed, highlighting the importance of urban spaces where diverse social interactions occur. The quality and accessibility of public spaces and their impact on the quality of life for urban residents are proposed as topics that warrant deeper exploration in future research.
Chapter 4 emphasizes the concept of urban regeneration and the importance of resident participation through the case of the Busan Sanbok Road regeneration. It argues that urban regeneration should not be merely a physical redevelopment but a process that enhances the quality of life for residents and revitalizes local communities. This chapter confirms that resident participation is an essential element for sustainable urban development and insists that the voices of residents must be reflected in the policy-making process.
Chapter 5 examines the roles of citizens and the importance of resistance through the lens of urban rights and resistant citizenship, analyzing how resistance in public spaces contributes to democratic discourse and the reconstruction of citizenship. Resistance in urban spaces transcends mere opposition; it can serve as a crucial means to restore the publicness and democracy of cities. This discussion highlights the significance of citizen participation in the urban development process and ultimately aims to contribute to the creation of an inclusive urban environment where all citizens can participate equally.
This study seeks to deepen the understanding of the issues faced by cities and aims to contribute to the exploration of a more inclusive and equitable direction for urban development, while also playing a significant role in presenting a new paradigm for urban studies.
