초록

「然語」는 1774년 위백규가 48～49세 때 지은 작품으로, 대화체 산문과 수창한시를 두루 모아놓은 漫錄이다. 유독 매화를 좋아하던 그가 ‘梅君’이라는 가상의 知己를 상정하고는, 대면하고 앉아 이야기를 나누는 듯 작자의 내면을 토로한 작품이다.
「연어」는 작품 내외적인 측면에서 전통 매화소재 시문학 작품과 변별되는 특징들을 다수 포함하고 있다. 단순 완상과 음영방식을 벗어나 대화체의 형식을 차용한 작품, 시와 산문을 아우른 잡록 형태, 체계적인 연작의 공식 작품이라는 외형상의 특징을 먼저 주목할 만하다.
작품 속 매화 형상도 전래의 그것과는 다른 면모를 보여준다. 연정과 그리움의대상[美人], 지조와 절개의 상징[君子], 은일적 삶을 지향하는 선인․선각자적[仙人] 이미지가 전통의 그것이었다면, 「연어」 속의 ‘梅君’은 보다 현실적이고 실체적인 인격[師友, 知己]의 표상을 더하고 있어 남다르다. 이전의 간헐적이던 자기 검열의 태도나 비판적 형상은 보다 강화되고, 저자의 직접적인 생활 고뇌와 신고의 토로에 간혹 눙치고 희롱하는 모습을 아울러 보이는 등 「연어」 속의 ‘梅君’은 생기 넘치는 모습으로 부각된다.
전래의 매화 감상 및 매화 시문 창작 태도와 비교해도 「연어」는 독특하다. 18세기에는 매화 감상과 매화 시문 창작이 유독 성행하였던 바, 경향사족들이 집단적인시사모임을 갖고 심미적 완상물로 매화를 감상하고 매화시를 창작했다면, 향촌사족들은 독자적이고 자족적으로 매화를 감상하고 매화시를 창작하면서 자기 토로적 경향성을 보다 강하게 드러내고 있다.

영어초록

'Yeoneo' is written by Baek gyu Wi when he was 48 or 49 years old in 1774 and is light essays which are a collection of dialogic prose and exchange poetry. He uniquely liked Japanese apricot flowers and imagined an imaginary friend named 'Maegun' and wrote 'Yeoneo' by speaking his inner mind as if he is talking with the imaginary friend.
'Yeoneo' includes many characteristics discriminated from the traditional poetry literature works with Japanese apricot flowers as the materials in both the external and the internal aspects of the work. It's worth first paying attention to the characteristics of the appearance that it borrowed the dialogic format escaping from the simple appreciation and recitation method and its miscellaneous records format putting poetry and prose together and its format of systematic series.
The traditional images of Japanese apricot flowers are the subject of crush and longing(beauty), the symbol of fidelity and integrity(noble man) and Zen image heading for life of seclusion(a Taoist hermit with supernatural powers), and the shape of Japanese apricot flowers shown in 'Yeoneo' of Baek gyu Wi is different in that a symbol of a more realistic and substantial personality(colleagues, friends) is added to that. The previous intermittent self-inspection attitude or critical shape are more strengthened, and the Japanese apricot flowers in 'Yeoneo' are full of vitality by sometimes showing the appearance as if they soothe and ridicule the exposing of direct living suffering and hardships of the writer.
'Yeoneo' is unique even when it is compared with the transmitted attitudes of appreciation of Japanese apricot flowers and creation of Japanese apricot flowers poetry and prose. In the 18th century, the appreciation of Japanese apricot flowers and the creation of Japanese apricot flowers poetry and prose prevailed more than any other times, Seoul noble family had collective meetings for a history of Chinese poetry and appreciated Japanese apricot flowers as aesthetic subject of appreciation and created Japanese apricot flowers poetry, and local noble family showed a tendency of speaking one's mind more strongly appreciating Japanese apricot flowers and creating Japanese apricot flowers poetry individually and self-sufficiently.
