정출(연) 이메일 공격 차단을 위한 다중 필터링 아키텍처 설계 (Designing a Multi-Filtering Architecture for Blocking Government-Funded Research Institute E-mail Attacks)

초록

이메일은 기관의 대표적인 외부 접점 시스템으로 다양한 해킹 공격에 상시 노출되어 있다. 과학기술 분야 정부 출연연구기관들 또한 해킹 메일을 통한 공격 위협이 증대되고 있다. 그러나 출연(연) 대다수 기관에서는 다양한 정보보보호 시스템을 도입하여 운영하고 있으나, 소수의 스팸 장비에 의존하여 이메일 보안을 수행하고 있기에 이메일을 통한 공격에는 매우 취약한 상황이다. 정출(연)은 기관별 고유 특성에 따라 정보시스템과 보안 체계를 구축하고 있기는 하지만 공통으로 국가과학기술연구망(KREONET)을 사용하기에 기본적인 보안 정책은 적용하여야 한다. 기관별 보안 시스템 적용은 기관 담당자와 기관 측면에서는 연동과 통합 운영이 제한되며, 정부 측면에서는 중복투자로도 귀결될 수 있다. 이에, 각 출연(연)에 통합된 보안 메일 시스템을 구축하고, 지능형 위협 탐지와 방어를 위한 공동 통합 보안 체계 마련의 필요성이 대두되고 있다. 정출(연)은 KREONET을 사용하기에 지능형 지속 위협의 탐지와 방어를 위한 중앙집중형 보안 DMZ 구축을 통하여 메일 보안 정책을 공통 적용할 수 있으며, 기관별 융통성도 부여할 수 있다. KREONET 및 과학기술사이버안전센터(S&T-CSC) 연계 협력체계를 통한 이메일 보안도 가능하다. 이에 본 논문에서는 정출(연) 공통적인 보안 정책과 운영 중인 보안 솔루션들을 접목하여 확장할 수 있는 악성 메일 다중 필터링 아키텍처를 설계하여 안정성·효율성·편의성이 확보된 과학기술 부문 출연연구기관 통합보안 메일 운영 체계 구축을 통한 경제성 제고 및 연구 몰입환경 조성 방안을 제시하고자 한다.

영어초록

Email is the institution's representative external contact system, which is constantly exposed to hacking attacks. Government-funded research institutes in science and technology also face increasing threats due to attacks through hacking emails. However, most government-funded research institutes have introduced and operated various information protection systems. Since email security relies on a small amount of spam equipment, it is very vulnerable to attacks through email. Government-funded research institutes establish information and security systems based on the unique characteristics of each institution. Still, they commonly use the National Science and Technology Research Network (KREONET), and basic security policies should be applied in common. The application of the security system for each institution is limited in terms of linkage and integrated operation in terms of the institution in charge of the institution, and it can lead to overlapping investment in terms of the government. Accordingly, the need to establish an integrated security mail system for each institute and prepare a joint integrated security system for detecting and defending intelligent threats is emerging. Government-funded research institutes use KREONET to commonly apply mail security policies by establishing a centralized security DMZ to detect and protect intelligent, persistent threats, which can also give flexibility to each institution. Email security is also possible through the cooperation system linked to KREONET and the Science and Technology Cyber Safety Center (S&T-CSC). Therefore, in this paper, we designed a scalable malicious mail multi-filtering architecture by combining government-funded research institutes with standard security policies and operational security solutions. By establishing an integrated security mail operating system for government-funded research institutes in the science and technology sector that has secured stability, efficiency, and convenience, we intend to improve economic feasibility and create an environment for research immersion.
