초록

본 연구는 유금와당박물관 소장 중국 전국시대 齊와 燕의 수막새와 수키와의 제작기법을 17가지 속성으로 나누어 검토하였다.
수막새 형태는 대부분 반원막새이며, 齊에서 원형막새가 나타난다. 반원막새는 원형막새를 반으로 잘라 만들었다. 수막새는 와범(瓦范)을 사용해 성형하였다. 수키와 접합 방식은 막새 배면에 원통형의 수키와를 붙이고 잘라내는 것이 주를 이루며, 齊에서는 원통을 반으로 자른 반절형(半切形) 수키와를 접합하는 방식이 나타난다. 수막새와 접합 수키와 하단의 지름은 동일한 경우가 많지만 수키와 하단의 지름보다큰 막새를 접합하는 방식도 사용되었다. 수막새 배면 형태는 편평한 것과 배면 하부의 테두리가 돌출된 것이 있다. 수막새에서 수키와를 반으로 분리하는 방식에서 齊는 분리실(分離絲)과 와도(瓦刀)를 비슷하게 사용하였지만 이번 대상품에서 燕은 와도를 사용한 것만 확인되었다. 막새 배면 처리는 물손질과 지두압을 이용하는 방식이 혼재되었다.
수키와 성형에는 점토띠를 테쌓기(輪積法)하는 방법이 사용되었다. 와통(瓦桶)을 사용하는 성형 방식이 주류이지만 齊에서는 무와통 성형 사례가 일부 확인된다. 통쪽와통이 확인되지 않으므로 원통와통만 사용한 것으로 추정된다. 받침모루와 두들개를 사용한 타날 성형과 물레를 사용한 방식이 모두 확인되는데, 齊에서는 기와 내‧외면의 회전물손질 흔적이 두드러진다. 정면은 물손질과 회전물손질이 모두 사용되는데 燕은 무정면 사례가 보인다. 분리 장치는 齊에서만 일부 확인되며, 마포(麻布)를 사용하였다. 와도방향은 외측에서 내측, 내측에서 외측이 모두 확인되며, 완전 분할한 개체도 일부 보인다.

영어초록

This study investigated the production techniques of convex eave-end tiles and convex roof tiles, which are ancient Chinese artifacts from the Qi (齊) and Yan (燕) states during the Warring States period. The research categorized these techniques into 17 different attributes for examination.
The most common shape of convex eave-end tiles is semi-circular, with round eave-end tiles appearing in Qi. Semi-circular eave-end tiles are created by cutting round eave-end tiles in half. The molding process is used for shaping convex eave-end tiles. The primary method for attaching cylindrical convex roof tiles to convex eave-end tiles involves attaching a cylindrical convex roof tile to the rear of the convex eave-end tile and then cutting it. In Qi, amethod involving half-cut cylindrical convex roof tiles, known as half-shaped convex roof tiles, is used. While the diameter of the attached convex roof tile and convex eave-end tile is often the same, there are cases where larger convex eave-end tiles are attached to the convex roof tile. The rear surface of convex eave-end tiles can be either flat or have a protruding edge on the bottom. When separating convex roof tiles from convex eave-end tiles, Qi employs both a cutting thread and a tile cutting knife, and Yan shows the use of a tile cutting knife (瓦刀) in this case. The back treatment of convex eave-end tiles involves a combination of wet finishing and clay pressing for molding.
The shaping of convex roof tiles is achieved using the ring-building method. Although the primary method of shaping involves Wooden Frames (瓦桶), there are instances of non-Wooden Frame shaping observed in Qi. It is believed that only cylindrical Wooden Frames were used, as there are no indications of woven Wooden Frames. Both anvils and potter's wheels are used for shaping, with Qi displaying clear signs of rotational wet finishing on both the inner and outer surfaces. In terms of surface finishing (整面), both wet finishing and rotational wet finishing are employed. However, in Yan, there are instances of non-surface finishing. The existence of a separation device is only partially confirmed in Qi, where hemp cloth (麻布) is used. The direction of the tile cutting knife varies (瓦刀), with both outer-to-inner and inner-to-outer directions being observed, and there are some instances of completely separated objects.
