제품의 감성디자인 사례 연구 - 소재와의 상관관계를 분석하여 (A Case Study of Emotional Design in Products - Considering the Correlation with Materials)

초록

21세기 이후 부상하기 시작한 ‘감성’이라는 키워드로 인하여 거의 모든 분야에 감성이 화두로 등장하게 되었다. 기술의 발달로 인해 이제 물건은 단순히 기능적인 만족감에 머물지 않고 물건과 사람사이의 정서적 유대관계가 형성된 감성디자인이 중요하게 된 것이다. 제품에 있어 소재란 더 이상 제작공정의 일부가 아닌 디자인을 혁신할 수 있는 핵심역량이기에, 인간 감성에 부합하는 감성소재가 적용된 디자인의 개발은 점점 더 절실히 요구되고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 제품 감성디자인에서 소재의 중요성을 객관적인 자료로 입증하였고, 이 자료를 토대로 수요자 측면에서 본 감성디자인 사례들을 분류하였다.
내용면에서는, 감성의 개념 및 산업에서의 감성 도입과정을 살펴보았고, 감성디자인 선행 논문을 분석하여 특징적으로 연구된 감성요소들을 도출한 후 감성디자인 사례 분석틀에 참조하였다.
분석 1단계로, 객관적인 타당성을 위하여 1,000개의 최신 트렌드에 맞는 감성디자인 제품들을 수집하여, 선행연구 키워드를 기준으로 설문조사를 통해 디자인과 소재의 중요성을 입증하였고, 이 중 200개의 감성사례를 선정하여 전문가 그룹에서 2,3,4단계에 거쳐 분석한 결과로, 크게 4가지 - 1. 경이롭고 예상치 못함, 2. 오감 및 신기술의 융합, 3. 친환경적이며 사회적 가치를 고려하는 삶의 질, 4. 개별화된 이야기 - 세부 8가지의 감성 요소로 분류하여 특징과 대표적 사례들을 제시하였다. 연구 분야에서는 아직 초기 단계인 감성디자인과 소재에 대한 연구가 이를 토대로 좀 더 심도 있게 발전되기를 바란다.

영어초록

In the 21st century, the keyword ‘emotion’ has emerged as a buzzword in almost every industry. With the development of improved production techniques, it can help to produce goods that meet customers’ emotional needs, as well as their basic functional needs. The choice of materials used in creating products is one of the two core competencies of production – efficiency and design innovation – not simply part of the simple production process. The development of ‘emotional materials’ is becoming an increasingly important element of the overall product development process. This case study is designed to demonstrate the importance of materials selection in emotional design, using objective data and analyzed product cases, from the perspective of the consumer, based on that data. I began by researching the conceptual background and trends of emotion in the context of the emotional material industry. I then compared my findings, using an analytical framework, sampling the characteristically studied emotional factors discussed in the preceding thesis.
In the first step, in order to establish objective validity, 1,000 examples of recent, trendy emotional design cases were studied to show the importance of both design and materials in products, with an analysis based on the keywords of the preceding thesis. Then, of those cases, 200 were selected and further categorized, using 3 more steps, with input from the design expert group, as described in the thesis. The results were then divided, in the larger context, into four primary categories, as follows; (1) Unexpectedness, with ‘wow’ effects; (2) Convergence of the five human senses with new technology; (3) Quality of life, considering both eco-friendly and social factors; and (4) The narrative – customizing and storytelling. Eight distinctive characteristics, within the context of the four primary categories, were further identified. The dominant cases, and the characteristics identified, are shown in the chart that is included. More in-depth studies will be required for emotional design as it relates to materials, as the research is still in the early stages of development.
