초록

This study aimed to analyze the correlation between mastication impairment and health behaviors, nutritional characteristics, and socioeconomic factors among adults. Data from the National Health and Nutrition Survey conducted from 2019 to 2021 were analyzed over a three-year period. The final study population consisted of 14,768 participants aged 19 years or older. The primary objective was to establish and provide essential information for future national programs and policy development targeting individuals experiencing mastication impairment. Results revealed a significant association between mastication impairment, age, lower average body weight, higher waist circumference, lower rates of malnutrition, and lower recognition and utilization of nutrition labeling (p<0.001). Socioeconomic factors and mental health showed higher rates of basic living allowance qualification, lower educational levels, a higher proportion of manual labor occupations (p<0.001), higher levels of stress perception, higher rates of suicidal ideation, and a higher awareness of stress (p<0.001). In terms of physical health, mastication-impaired individuals reported a higher subjective perception of poor health and physical discomfort, as well as lower levels of physical activity (p<0.001). Based on these findings, it is crucial to maintain ongoing monitoring and continuous attention to individuals experiencing mastication impairment. Therefore, based on the accumulated basic data, it is suggested that continuous monitoring is necessary to prevent adults with mastication impairment from being socially marginalized as vulnerable individuals in their daily lives. This includes establishing the foundation for standardization of welfare measures
