On Intelligent Design Against Chomsky's (2010; 2011) Language Evolution

초록

Chomsky (2010; 2011) assumes Universal Grammar(UG) consists of external and internal Merge, (which is Move). This UG, he assumes, developed suddenly through the process of evolution, especially mutation(s). Chomsky's (2010; 2011) supposition of UG through evolution, especially mutation(s), has so many conflicting problems. To explain language acquisition(growth), especially in feral children, he must assume two conflicting mutation(s) about UG, individual, and at the same time group mutation(s). Chomsky (2010:19) assumes "mutations take place in an individual not in a group" and Chomsky (2010:20), contradictory to his former statement, says "There is no point in doing it if you are the only person who has this capacity", which is group mutation(s) in another words. Chomsky (2010; 2011) also assumes language faculty is just the internal system (Merge or UG) without the sensory motor system (sound system). According to Chomsky, relating the internal system to the sensory motor system is externalization, which is not UG or innate. This is against the traditional common sense assumption of language from Aristotle's description of language as sound with a meaning, Saussure's language (sign) as the relationship of signifiant (sound) and signifié (meaning), and those of modern linguists.
I rather propose as in Shin (209; 2010), instead of Chomsky's assumptions, Behe's (1996: 39) irreducible complexity "a single system which is composed of several well-matched interacting parts that contribute to the basic function, wherein the removal of any one of the parts causes the system to effectively cease functioning", and Dembski's (1999:47) specified complexity based on intelligent design. Language is just a good example of irreducible complexity and specified complexity, showing the working together of speech anatomy and Chomsky's internal system, which together constitute language faculty (the internal system, the sensory motor system, and externalization). Humans have both a species-specific brain capable of learning and conveying abstract ideas and the physical anatomy (mouth, throat, flexible tongue, descended larynx, etc.) to produce a wide range of sounds. Language shows irreducible complexity and specified complexity based on intelligent design.
