초록

With the current rapid development of society and the improvement in living standards, excessive waste of clothing and environmental issues have been attracting widespread attention. This study, thus, aims to analyze the significance and value of upcycling and reconstructing fashion from a deconstructionist perspective. We first conducted preceding studies on the concepts and characteristics of upcycling fashion, disintegrationist fashion, and Maison Margiela. Then, 16 works from eight seasons between 2018 and 2021 were selected and analyzed based on Panofsky's three-stage iconology method, centering on Maison Margiela's collection to interpret its essential significance and symbolic value. The analysis results indicate that Maison Margiela's collection emphasizes the sustainability of fashion through the upgraded design of old clothes, emphasizing the coexistence of diverse times and the value of forgetting the past. Through deconstruction techniques, the collection breaks the limitations of time, space, class, and gender, conveying a positive attitude toward an uncertain society and a desire for beauty and life. This study analyzes and reveals the development direction of deconstructive upcycling and reconstruction of fashion design from the perspective of iconology analysis based on the inherent era value and cultural significance of contemporary designers' fashion design, providing a research foundation for the development and sustainability of deconstructive upcycling fashion.
