엄준(嚴遵) 『노자지귀(老子指歸)』의 우주생성론 고찰 (The Study on the Cosmology of the Yan-Zun’s Laozizhigui)

초록

이 글은 엄준 『노자지귀(老子指歸)』의『노자』 40장과 42장의 해석을 중심으로 그 우주생성론의 특징과 의의를 살펴보는 것을 목표로 한다. 엄준은 『노자』 40장의 ‘天下萬物生於有, 有生於無’와 42장의 ‘道生一, 一生二, 二生三, 三生萬物’의 해석에서 우주생성에 관한 논의를 전개한다. 특히 42장의 해석을 중심으로 천지만물 생성의 궁극적 원인, 생성과 분화의 과정, 그리고 궁극적 원인의 기본 성격 등의 문제를 적극적으로 검토한다. 『노자지귀(老子指歸)』』 우주생성론은 양한시기 우주생성론에서 생성 단계를 분절적으로 설명하려는 관점에서 벗어나, 생성의 각 단계의 상호 연관성을 강조한다. 이는 천지만물 생성의 근원으로서의 ‘도’가 자기분화와 전개를 통해 생성의 각 단계에 연속적으로 작용하는 것을 강조한 결과이다. 엄준은 이러한 구체적 분화과정을 ‘기화분리(氣化分離)’로 설명하며, 생성 과정은 생성의 근원이자 근거로서의 ‘도’에 의한 ‘기’의 실질적 운동 변화라는 점을 명확히 한다.
『『노자지귀(老子指歸)』의 ‘도’는 천지만물의 존재의 근거이자 생성의 궁극적 원인으로, 생성론과 본체론의 이분법적 도식에서 벗어나 두 이론을 아우르는 측면에서 이해해야 한다. 그리고 생성의 근원이자 근거인 ‘도’에 의해 생성의 각 단계는 ‘기화’의 과정으로 이루어진다는 점에서 『노자지귀(老子指歸)』의 우주생성론은 일종의 ‘도기론(道氣論)’의 성격을 지닌다.

영어초록

This paper aims to examine the characteristics and significance of the cosmological generation theory, focusing on the interpretation of chapters 40 and 42 of the Laozi of the Yan-Zun’s Laozizhigui. Yan-Zun discusses the creation of the universe in the interpretation of "The universe, the earth, and everything in it comes from existence, but existence comes from nonexistence" in Chapter 40 of the Laozi and "The Dao produces unity, unity produces duality, duality produces trinity, trinity produces all things" in Chapter 42. In particular, focusing on the interpretation of Chapter 42, issues such as the ultimate cause of the creation of all things, the process of creation and differentiation, and the basic nature of the ultimate cause are actively reviewed. Laozizhigui cosmology emphasizes the interrelationships of each stage of production, moving away from the point of view of segmentally describing the stages of production in the Han dynasty period cosmology. This is the result of emphasizing the continuous action of each stage of creation through 'Dao' self-differentiation and development as the source of the creation of all things. Yan-Zun explains this specific differentiation process as ‘the differentiation and division of Qi' and clarifies that the generation process is a substantial change in the movement of ‘Qi’ by ‘Dado' as the source and basis of creation.
The ‘Dao' of the Laozizhigui is the basis for the existence of all things and the ultimate cause of creation, and it must be understood in terms of encompassing the two theories, away from the dichotomous scheme of Cosmology and Ontology. And since each stage of creation is made up of a process of ‘the differentiation of Qi', which is the source and basis of creation, Laozizhigui's theory of cosmological generation has a kind of ‘Dao-Qi theory'
