초록

Title : Social Phenomenon of China Seen through Chinese Newly-Coined Words - Chinese New Words Coined from 2008 to 2010- Language is inseparable from society, and they have developed together. Language is created through social development and along with social development, language repeats development and change. Newly-coined words are results made from interaction between language and social development. As they show developing process of a society just as it was, recording newly-coined words is the same as recording the history of social development of that time when they are made. They are key words and a window through which society inside and language life are exposed. Since the reform and opening up, China has brought in a large quantity of new products of western civilization and a great number of new words to express the new western things have been made. Rapid development in each area of the society has increased the quantity of new words.
The world paid much attention to China through a few big international events.
Chinese people had great pride in their power through the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the position of G2, and as they successfully held the 2010 Shanghai EXPO and the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games through which they displayed its financial and diplomatic power to the world, they grasped another opportunity to enhance economic and social development and had a social condition where new words could be coined.
This study set up a time standard of research on new words as '2009 to 2010' during which Chinese new words were investigated to understand change in Chinese society.
The results are presented as follows: China held big international events including the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the 2010 Shanghai EXPO and the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games. They had a great influence on economic development of the host country and their economic influence was significant. Thus, it attracted much attention from the world while China held large-scaled international events consecutively. It grasped an opportunity of social development through economic and industrial development through which a large number of new words were made. As language speaks for a society when new words are made under the influence of social development, social development is a very important energy to coinage of new words. This study analysed specific new words to understand the aspect of society reflected on new words, look at and predict social development through kew words in new words and speculated on the relations between social development and language.
