초록

박경리의 초기 단편은 한국전쟁으로 인한 개인적, 사회적 내상에 대한 탐구가 핵심 주제이며, 그 후에 발표된 장편 『시장과 전장』, 『표류도』등에서 전쟁과 전후를 배경으로 주로 여성주체의 인식을 드러내었다. 이 시기 전쟁과 전후에 대한 여성주체의 인식은 박경리 소설의 한 축을 형성한다. 또한 전쟁체험은 참혹한 전쟁피해와 사회악을 향한 비판과 고발이 주된 제재로서 전쟁이 강요한 가난과 궁핍, 온갖 좌절을 겪은 고독한 여성들의 삶으로 표출된다. 박경리는 가족 상실과 아이의 죽음, 피난과 절대궁핍 같은 각고난만에 처한 여성의 이야기를 그린다. 이러한 여성의 전쟁체험은 전쟁의 대의와 명분, 전쟁의 정당성 여부와 같은 남성 중심적인 시각과는 거리가 멀다는 점을 발견할 수 있다.
박경리 소설에서 남성은 관념적이며 과소평가 혹은 과대 포장된 인물들이다. 그들은 전쟁에서 죽거나(「불신시대」의 진영, 「암흑시대」의 순영의 남편), 도망치거나(「외곽지대」의 수생), 소심하고 결단력이 없는(「표류도」의 이상현) 모습이거나, 야합에 물들어 치졸한(「표류도」의 최강사) 모습을 보인다. 이러한 경향은 전쟁의 대의와 조망에서 남성이 전제된 것과는 다르다. 전후 주체적으로 생존을 해결할 경제적 능력이 취약했던 여성들과는 달리 남성들은 전쟁으로 인한 후유증으로 현실을 도피하거나, 무기력하게 수용하는 방향으로 치닫는다. 이러한 남성들의 삶을 작품 속의 여성은 객관적인 시선으로 바라보거나 멀찌감치 떨어져서 회피하고 있다.
따라서 본고는 박경리의 소설 중 남성을 주인공으로 한 작품 「군식구」(1956)․「외곽지대」(1965)를 통해 험난하고 지난한 삶을 투쟁하는 여성들과는 달리 남성이 폭력과 희생의 주체가 되는 양상을 살펴본다. 주로 여성주체의 인식과 삶을 형상화한 박경리의 소설들과 달리 이 소설들은 남성을 주체로 하여 전쟁 후의 비참한 삶과 폭력에 의한 희생을 드러내고 있다. 또한 이 두 작품은 남성을 주요인물로 한 박경리의 몇 안 되는 작품으로, 험난하고 지난한 삶을 투쟁하는 여성들과는 다른 면모를 보인다는 점에서 그 의미를 찾을 수 있다. 두 작품에 드러난 전후시기 작가의 관심은 전쟁의 이데올로기적 갈등 자체에 대한 것 보다는 전후 사회의 인간성 상실, 가치관의 혼란, 타인에 대한 불신과 저항, 패배주의의 만연 등과 같은 속악한 현실이라는 상황적 조건으로 이해될 수 있다.

영어초록

The main subject of Park Kyung Ree's initial short story is the study to the personal and social internal injury caused by Korean War, and the novel released thereafter, the 「Market and Battlefield」, 「A Floating Island」 etc, revealed the awareness of the female-subjective based the war and the postwar. In this era, the awareness of the female-subjective against the war and the post war forms an axis of Park Kyung Ree's novel. The main subject matter of war experience for a novel, in addition, is the criticism and the accusation against the horrible war damage and the social evil, and express through a life of lonely female who experienced the poverty, want and every frustration coerced by war. Park Kyung Ree describes the female's story to be in a hard work being in full bloom such as the family-lose, death of child and every frustration, We can find that these females' war experience depart from the male-dominative view, such as the cause and the justification of warfare, the fair or unfair of warfare's legitimacy.
In Park Kyung Ree's novel, Male is ideological and, underestimated or over estimated character. They are killed in the war(Jin-young in 「Age of Disbelief」, Sun-young's husband in 「A Dark Age」), run away from the war(Su-sang in 「Outer Zone」), show timid and irresolute disposition(Lee Sang-hyun in 「A Floating Island」), or show dirty persona affected collusion(Lecturer Choi in 「A Floating Island」). These inclinations are different with that the male is prerequisite to the cause and the prospect of the war. Unlike the females is vulnerable to economic ability to solve the survival as independent, the males soar toward that escapes from reality or accept the reality lethargically, as the aftermath of war. The woman in the novel gazes in detached way or avoid from a distance, these males' life.
This study, therefore, looks the aspect that the male is the main agent of the violence and the sacrifice, unlike the female struggled for the rough and extreme difficult life, through 「 Parasitical Dependent」(1956), 「Outer Zone」(1965) which the main character is male, among Park Kyung Ree's novel. Unlike Park Kyung Ree's novel describing the awareness and the life of the female-subjective, these novels reveal the miserable life and the sacrifice due to the violence, through the male-subjective. These two works, in addition, have meaning that they are only a few works among Park Kyung Ree's novel the male is main character, and the male-subject show a different appearance with the females who struggle the rough and extreme difficult life. The writer's interest of the postwar period appearing in this two works can be understand the vulgar reality such as the loss of humanity in the in postwar life, the confusion of values, the distrust and resistance against the others, and the spread of the defeatism, rather than the ideologic value itself of the war.
