모빌리티 노동의 정동－도시 모빌리티와 1970~80년대 ‘버스 안내양’의 정동－ (The Affect of Mobility Labor－Urban Mobility and Affect of the Female Bus Attendants in the 1970s and 1980s－)

초록

본 논문은 1970~80년대 도시 모빌리티가 빚어내는 정동을 ‘버스 안내양’에 초점 맞추어 검토한다. 이를 위해 이 시기 버스 안내양과 관련된 기사, 수기, 시, 소설을 두루 검토함으로써 정동 소외자로서 안내양이 경험한 노동을 모빌리티 정동으로 설명하였다. 이는 모빌리티를 중심으로 재편된 당대의 사회 구조를 보여주는 동시에 다수의 인구가 노동자-되기를 경험했던 산업화시대의 정동적 분위기를 상징하는 형상이라는 점에서 주목을 요한다.
안내양은 강도 높은 노동 환경에 놓인 상태에서 불시에 감시받고 수색당하는 신체였고 정당하게 점유할 수 있는 공간이 없는 신체였다는 점에서, 도시 순환 인프라의 부족한 구멍을 메우는 존재인 동시에 그 자체로 하나의 구멍을 상징하는 형상이었다. 불특정 다수의 승객은 물론이고 운전수 및 감독관과의 불규칙한 갈등에 대처해야 했고 당대 사회의 교양담론이 부과하는 자기 통치의 압력도 내면화해야 했던 현실은 안내양의 신체가 겪어야 했던 정동 정치를 잘 보여준다. 안내양이 경험하는 노동은 도시 모빌리티의 작동을 위해 수행되는 노동이므로 도시 모빌리티 바깥에 놓인 노동이고, 다른 사람의 ‘제시간’을 지켜주기 위한 노동이므로 일종의 그림자 노동이다. 임모빌리티 상태에서 피상적으로만 이동하고 있는 시간 바깥에서의 이동이기 때문이다. 따라서 안내양은 시간 인프라 바깥에서 모빌리티를 작동시키는 가장 허약한 형상으로서 모빌리티가 장치임을 드러내주는 구멍이며 정동 소외자이며, 무수한 타인의 모빌리티와 시간성을 몸으로 부딪쳐내며 자기를 구성하는 모빌리티 정동 형상이다. 안내양 출신 시인 최명자가 쓴 일련의 노동시와 홍성원의 소설 「흔들리는 땅」은 이 점을 잘 보여준다. 물리적 모빌리티는 물론 사회적 모빌리티의 동요와 부딪침을 가장 잘 보여주는 텍스트이기 때문이다. 안내양은 경제발전의 원동력으로 일컬어지던 산업역군의 형상이 건장한 남성 노동자였다는 점에서 노동 주체로서의 노동자로부터도 배제되고, 어린 동생의 주민등록등본으로 신분을 위장하면서 취업할 수밖에 없다는 점에서 고유한 이름으로 상징되는 권리를 갖는 시민으로부터 배제되고, 교양있는 여학생, 사랑받는 가정주부, 학식 있는 문필가가 될 수도 없었던 정동 소외자다. 자기 정립이 불가능하다는 점을 통해서 자기를 정립하는, 완료되지 않은 채 틈새시간에 놓인 ‘-되기’의 형상이었기 때문이다.

영어초록

This paper aims to examine the affect from urban mobility in the 1970s and 1980s, focusing on the female bus attendants. I review some articles, labor memoirs, poems, and novels related to the female bus attendants at the time. So with this, I conceptualize the labor of bus attendants as the ‘mobility affect.’ They show the new social structure at the time of reorganization around urban mobility, and at the same time, they need attention in that they symbolize the affect atmosphere of the industrialization era when a large number of people experienced becoming laborers.
The female bus attendant was the body that was unexpectedly monitored and searched while in an intense working environment, and had no space to occupy rightfully. In that sense, they were the beings filling the insufficient holes in the urban circulation infrastructure, and at the same time they symbolized one hole in themselves. They had to deal with irregular conflicts with bus drivers and supervisors as well as unspecified passengers, and internalize the pressure of governance of themselves imposed by the cultural discourse. This reality illustrates the politics of the affect that their bodies had to go through. Since the labor of bus attendant was performed for the operation of urban mobility, it was labor placed outside of urban mobility. And it was a kind of shadow labor because it was labor to protect other people’s ‘time.’ This is because their mobility was out-of-time mobility, which was only superficially moving in the immobility state. Therefore, they were the weakest figures that operate mobility outside the time infrastructure, a hole that reveals that mobility is the dispositif, and the mobility affect figures that form itself by bumping into the mobility and temporality of others. Some labor poems written by poet Choi Myung-ja from the female bus attendant, and Hong Sung-won’s novel Shaking Land illustrated this point well.
The affect is, above all, the forces of encounter and the flux. In this regard, the texts related to urban mobility in the 1970s and 1980s reviewed in this paper could show the disturbances of social mobility as well as physical mobility well. The female bus attendants were the affect aliens. They were excluded from laborers as labor subjects in that the figure of industrial laborers, called the driving force of economic development, was a strong male worker, and from citizens with singular rights in that they had no choice but to get a job while disguising their status. Nor could they become cultured female students, beloved housewives, or intellectual writers. This is because the female bus attendant was in the form of a ‘becoming’ that established herself through the fact that it was impossible to establish herself. They were always thrown in the meantime.
