초록

In the course of the development of Yang-jia-jiang story, Yang Ye played a most critical role. His heroic actions and tragic death were essential elements to make the story felt deep in Chinese minds. In the story, he is also depicted as a spiritual mainstay who laid out the fundamentals of the Yang family.
Following his footsteps was Yang Yan-zhao, his 6th son. He was represented as Yang Liu-lang in the Yang-jia-jiang story. The family traditions was taken up by his son, Yang Wen-guang. Although he was described as achieving more compared to Yang Ye and Yang Yan-zhao in the story, his achievements as a military career man were not up to theirs.
Yang Wen-guang was the last in the series of military figures from the Yang clan in the Song dynasty. The story, though, went on through the 3rd generation Yang Zong-bao, 4th Yang Wen-guang to 5th Yang Huai-yu. In this Yang-jia-jiang story, Yang Wen-guang showed up as a grandson of 2nd generation Yang Yan-zhao, yet the actual historical figure Yang Wen-guang was represented by 3rd generation Yang Zong-bao. Yang-jia-jiang story contained a multitude of distorted historic figures and their achievements imbedded in the course of its growth.
Yang-jia-jiang story was written based on historical records of Yang-ye, Yang Yan-zhao and Yang Wen-guang. One could implicate that this story spread widely among general public in Southern Song and later period to fill the need of the people to seek solace and satisfaction from the heroes fighting and driving back Qidan and Xixia in the time of imminent threat from alien tribes. Yang-ye and Yang Yan-zhao also played a crucial role with them depicted to have what it took to make a tragic heroes that went along with the general emotions of the time.
