오노 토자부로(小野十三郎)의 詩精神 –초기 작품의 저항정신을 중심으로– (An Analysis of Ono Tozaburo’s [1903∼1996] Poetry Sprit)

초록

Ono Tozaburo is a Japanese poet who made poems by taking Realism and pioneering a new ground in the field of contemporary poetry. He approached cultural analysis from the standpoint of Realism. He chose not to resort to Lyricism, but to face his subject matter from an objective viewpoint; to critique through things, rather than by feelings alone.
He lived to the age of 94, issuing collections of poems in more than 20 books, yet still his entire image as a poet has not been clarified. In particular, there is almost no paper that summarizes his war poetry. He said in his second collection of poems in 1934 called “On Top of the Old World”, ‘War has cast a dark big shadow in the world of my poems and for the first time, in some way, the theme of my poems are war-related.’ From this comment one can see war became a very important theme in his poetry.
In the era he wrote this, and other war poems, the Manchurian Incident of 1931 had come to pass, and the situation of a full-scale war was the stark reality. In this paper, I analyze the poetry of Ono Tozaburo, focusing on his ‘resistance’ writing with special consideration on his poetic attitude toward the war.
The famous American poet, Carl Sandburg [1878~1967], though already an established poet, was also deeply influenced by Ono Tozaburo’s work. The two poets shared similar interests in their poetry themes: sympathy for the weak and acting as a voice of advocacy for those who were oppressed.
Ono Tozaburo’s writing is still considered today to be landmark in its resistance messages, unleashing color and silence making him a master for his time.
