북한 국가장례가 인민대중의 애도정서에 미치는 영향: 김일성, 김정일 사례를 중심으로 (The impact of North Korean state funerals on the public's mourning emotions: Focusing on the cases of Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il)

초록

본 연구의 목적은 지도자 사망 이후 수행되는 국가장례를 통해 국가로부터 주조되는 인민대중의 정서 변화를 분석하는 데 있다. 북한에서 지도자의 죽음은 곧 사회정치적 생명력을 부여하고 지속하게 하는 애착대상인 수령과 분리되는 것이다. 인민대중은 지도자 상실 이후 극심한 분리고통이 발생하는데, 이들은 거리와 광장에 나와 통곡하며 애도정서를 표출한다. 한편, 애도정서는 국가장례에서의 영결식과 추도대회를 거치며 망자의 죽음을 점진적으로 수용하며 변화한다. 이후 후계자와 애착관계가 형성·발전하면서 망자의 유훈을 실현하기 위해 일상으로 복귀한다. 연구 결과, 북한의 애도정서는 국가장례 절차에 의해 조정된다는 성격과 함께 다음과 같은 특징을 가진다. 첫째, 지도자 사망 이후 추모와 함께 ≪슬픔을 힘과 용기로!≫의 구호를 활용하여 애도 방향을 제시한다. 북한은 이중적 구호를 통해 국가 차원의 애도 방향을 설정하여 안정적인 애도과정을 도모한다. 둘째, 장례를 통해 애도정서를 단계적이고 점진적으로 관리한다. 인민대중은 초기 지도자의 죽음을 부정하면서도 망자와 대면(금수산의사당/기념궁전, 운구행렬)하면서 애도정서가 극대화된다. 인민대중은 장례 이후 추도대회 및 후계자의 감사문 발표를 거치며 망자의 죽음을 점진적으로 수용한다. 셋째, 인민대중은 영생의 논리를 통해 망자와 심리적 애착관계를 유지해 나간다. 그러면서 어버이를 잃은 공통의 정서를 바탕으로 후계자와 함께 망자의 유훈을 관철해야 한다는 목표 의식을 통해 중층적인 애착관계를 형성한다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study was to analyze the features and role of state funerals as a mechanism for adjusting the mourning emotions of the public related to the death of North Korea's supreme leader. In North Korea, the death of the supreme leader is the end of the attachment relationship formed with the "parental leader" that sustains social and political vitality. After the loss of their object of attachment, the masses experience extreme separation pain and collectively express their feelings of mourning by taking to the streets and public squares. Afterward, mourning emotions are observed in a series of processes by which people gradually accept the reality of death through funeral ceremonies and memorial gatherings held during the mourning period, while keeping the leader in mind and doing their part to follow his instructions.
Meanwhile, North Korea's mourning sentiments tend to be gradually adjusted according to the form and content of state funerals. First, after the death of the leader, the direction of mourning at the national level is set and conveyed to the public through the dual mourning sentiment of "overcoming sadness with strength and courage"along with commemoration. Second, mourning emotions are managed step by step through the national funeral process. In the denial stage of death following the National Funeral Commission's public notice, mourning emotions are maximized through an actual face-to-face meeting with the supreme leader’s body (at Geumsusan National Assembly). Afterward, gradual acceptance of death progresses through the central memorial service and the successor's letter of thanks, and plays a role in reproducing the mourning psychology through a permanently enshrined space. Third, while maintaining psychological attachment through the existing attachment relationship with the heir to power, his legacy, and eternal life, a more developed attachment relationship is formed through succession based on the common sorrow of losing one's parents along with forming a new attachment relationship.
