정지용의 시 「압천(鴨川)」에 나타난 주체 의식 (A Study on the Sense of Sovereignty Represented in Jeong Ji-Yong’s poem ‘Ap-Cheon’)

초록

정지용의 경도 텍스트는 박물지리학적 측면이나 감각적 층위의 논의들로 집중되어 왔다. 특히 그의 초기시에서 「압천(鴨川)」이라는 텍스트는 많은 논자들이 언급한 바 있는 완성도의 한계에 집중되어 있다. 그의 시세계는 균일한 완성도를 획득하고 있다고 평가되는데, 유독 이 텍스트에서는 내면의 토로나 형식적인 측면에서의 불균형이 지적되고 있다. 이러한 맥락에서 우리가 집중하고자 하는 것은 이 텍스트에 내장되어 있는 증후성이다. 이를 위해 우선적으로 살펴볼 측면은 바로 ‘경도’와 문학적 장소로서의 ‘경도’에 대한 구분과 그 의미이다. 이와 같은 배경 아래, 정지용의 초기시와 경도의 장소성에 주목하는 과정을 심화하기 위해 시적 표상 에 비해 내면화 과정이 보다 구체적으로 드러나는 산문과의 겹쳐 읽기는 매우 중요하다. 이를 시적 은폐와 산문적 개진이라 지칭할 수 있으며 여기서 정신분석의 ‘시차(視差)’ 개념은 적절한 키워드로 활용된다. 이러한 시도는 정지용의 초기 시세계의 다양한 해석 가능성 구축과 「압천(鴨川)」이라는 텍스트의 재발견을 가능하게 해준다. 우리는 이러한 결과를 도출하는 과정에서 정지용 시인의 초기시에 토대가 되고 있는 문학적 진실을 발견할 수 있게 된다. 그가 「압천(鴨川)」이라는 텍스트를 통해 높은 완성도를 견지하기보다 균열 자체를 구현한 데서, 우리는 일종의 문학적 징후를 포착해야만 한다. 이는 정지용의 유학 생활이 곧 일본 근대 체험의 복잡하고도 미묘한 양상들을 내포하고 있다는 사실과 밀접한 관련을 맺는다. 특히 ‘떠도는’ 시적 주체 그리고 노동에 대한 산문적 ‘시선’은 초기시의 ‘불가능성의 가능성’을 위한 토대가 된다. 현실에서 불가능해 보이는 구성적 측면이 오히려 문학적 가능성의 전제이자 필요조건이 될 수 있기 때문이다. 나아가 주체의 ‘불가능성’은 문학적 ‘가능성’의 지점으로 이행되기 위한 과정인 것이다. 그동안 정지용 시에 대한 연구사적 관심 속에서도 이러한 지점은 거의 주목되지 못했다. 그러나 초기시에 해당하는 「압천(鴨川)」에 내장된 세계인식과 시작법은 그의 전체 시세계의 중요한 특질을 예견하고 있는 중요한 텍스트이다. 우리는 정지용의 미학성 위상을 발전시키고자 하는 관점아래 「압천(鴨川)」의 특수성을 ‘미적 균열’이라고 지칭한다. 위와 같이 시와 산문 텍스트 겹쳐 읽기는 정지용 시세계의 고유한 위상과 특기할 만한 시적 의의에 대한 (재)인식을 가능하게 해준다.

영어초록

Jeong Ji-yong’s text, Gyeong-do, has been the focus of much discussion in terms of natural history-related geography. In particular, this discussion has concentrated on the limited sense of structural “completeness” that can be found in Ap-Cheon, his early poem. Ji-yong’s poetic world is often described as having achieved a kind of “uniform completeness.” However, in Ap-Cheon, imbalances in the poem’s internal discussions and formal aspects have been pointed out. Accordingly, this paper will concentrate on the sense of sovereignty presented in Ap-Cheon. For this objective, what is required to be observed preferentially is ‘Gyeong- do’ and its division, meaning as literary place. Against this backdrop, and in order to better understand Jeong Ji-yong’s early poems and the sense of placeness in Gyeong-do, a reading that “overlaps” with prose, which reveals internalization processes in more detail than poetic representation, is essential. These processes can be referred to as “poetic concealment” and “prosaic statement,” respectively. Furthermore, in this context, the psychoanalytic concept of “difference in opinion” is also key. Through this reading, diversified analyses of the early poetic world of Jeong Ji-yong are established, and a rediscovery of Ap-Cheon is enabled. In the process of deducing this result, we could discover a literary truth that becomes a foundation of early poet. We have to capture a kind of literary sign in that he materialized a crack itself rather than holding fast to high completeness through a text called Ap-Cheon. This is closely related to the fact that his time studying abroad included complicated and delicate experiences pertaining to life in modern Japan. In particular, his “wandering poet” identity and the prosaic “attention” that he showed towards laborers serve as the foundation for the “possibility of impossibility” that characterizes his early poetry. Because apparently unrealistic constructive aspect could become a premise and necessary condition of literary possibility. Furthermore, the “impossibility” of sovereignty is a process of being implemented to a point of literary “possibility.” During those times, the perspectives of the research historians who have examined Jeong Ji-yong’s poetry mostly ignore this point. However, the global consciousness and poetics found in Ap-Cheon correspond with his other early poems, and it is an important text for predicting the important characteristics of his total poet world. After considering the poem from the perspective of a young poet trying to develop his aesthetics, we have labeled these distinct characteristics in Ap-Cheon as an “aesthetic crack.” This “overlapping” approach of analyzing poetry with prose in mind as described above enables us to better recognize the unique position of Jeong Ji-young’s poetic world and its specific significance.
