초록

The Archigram in UK that appeared along with social condition changes in 1960s has proposed new city plans that apply concepts of “variability” and “mobility”. The aim of this paper presents the differences and changing trend of how to apply the concept of variability and mobility in city plans by comparing the scale. The paper also considers its meaning through the understanding the social and technical conditions of UK in 1960s.
As a result, we found that the motorization in UK has provided the opportunity to expand the application of variability and mobility in the existing buildings to large scale buildings. The city plans were developed to promote the realization and efficiency by reducing its scale. In addition, the late stage city plans actively apply the concept of variability and mobility more than the early stage city plans, and in a more complex manner.
