초록

본 논문은 오랜 역사를 가진 브랜드 까르띠에사(Cartier)의 주얼리에 나타난 에드워디안 양식의 조형적 특성을 분석하고자 하였다.
에드워디안 시대는 산업과 과학의 발전, 국제무역으로 인한 물질적 풍요로움 속에서 식민지에서 공급된다양한 원석 중심의 주얼리 산업이 발달하였다. 특히기계기술의 발달은 플래티넘 가공의 발전으로 이어져다이아몬드와 원석을 효과적으로 지지함과 동시에 레이스를 연상시키는 섬세한 디자인이 유행하였다.
이 시대 주얼리는 왕족과 귀족, 산업혁명을 통해 부를 축적한 부르주아에 초점을 맞추어 발달하였는데, 특히 부르주아들은 자신의 부를 과시하기 위한 주얼리를 적극 활용했으며 수요층을 만족시키기 위하여 까르띠에사의 디자인 경향 또한 화려하게 전개되었다.
파리의 보석 숙련공 이였던 루이 프랑수아 까르띠에(Louis-Francois Cartie)가 세운 까르띠에사는 19세기부터 오늘날까지 시대의 흐름에 발맞춰 다양한 상품을내놓으며 브랜드 입지를 탄탄히 다져온 회사로 1896년최초로 플래티넘을 사용한 주얼리를 제작하면서 까르띠에만의 개성을 담은 스타일과 정교하고 섬세한 세공기술로 최고만을 고집하는 명품 주얼리로 알려져 왔다.
따라서 본 연구의 목적은 19세기 말부터 20세기 초, 까르띠에사가 에드워디안 시대의 영향을 받아 어떻게번성하였는지 밝힘과 동시에 오늘날 까르띠에 주얼리에 미친 영향을 분석하였다.
연구방법 및 범위는 에드워디안 양식과 주얼리의 조형적 특성을 살펴보기 위해서 선행적으로 관련 서적과 논문, 인터넷 사이트 등을 통해 자료를 수집하고 조사하였다. 본 연구를 통해서 로코코의 영향을 받아 원석을 중심으로 발전했던 에드워디안 주얼리가 오늘날까지도끊임없이 재해석되어 까르띠에사에 영향을 주고 있다는 것을 알 수 있었으며, 이를 통해 국내 주얼리 브랜드의 전통적 가치 향상과 현대 주얼리 브랜드의 발전에 지향점이 될 것이다.

영어초록

This thesis is to analyze aesthetic features of Edwardian style presented in Jewelry of Cartier brand that has old history.
In the Edwardian era, the material abundance from developments of industries and science and international trade had led gemstone-based jewelry industry supplied by colonies. Especially, the development of mechanical industries had led to the development of platinum processing that effectively supported diamonds and stones as well as made lace-like design popular.
In those days, the jewelery were developed focussed on nobility, royalty, and bourgeoisie who accumulated wealth through the industrial revolution. In particular, the bourgeoisie utilized jewelery to show off their riches and, to satisfy the demands, the design tendencies of Cartier were showily developed. Cartier, founded by Louis-Francois Cartier, a skilled labor from Paris, has been producing various items from 19th century to the present with the stream. Cartier is known to be the first company to produce a platinum jewelery in 1896 and company of masterpiece jewelery that produces jewels of unique style with delicate craftsmanship.
Therefore, the purpose of this research is to analyze the effect of the Edwardian period during the late 19th to the early 20th century on Cartier and in which type of characteristics it had led and developed Cartier of the day.
The method and range of this research focus on disclosing the fact that the Edwardian jewelery had an effect on the current designs of jewelery, thus, collected and researched information from related publications, and internet in order to examine the Edwardian style and design characteristics of the Edwardian jewels.
As a result of the study, it was found that the Edwardian jewelery, which had developed from Rococo, has been constantly reinterpreted to the present day, and influencing the Cartier company. With this, the research studied about improvement of traditional value of domestic jewelery brands and course of development of those brands.
