고려시대 서해 연안해로의 객관과 안흥정 (Anhŭngjŏng and Kaekgwans on the Western Sea Paths during the Koryŏ Period)

초록

Kaekgwans (客館: guesthouse) on the Western sea paths during the Koryŏ period deserve some attention. They were public facilities of the Koryŏ period during which the overseas exchanges by sea were flourishing. According to Koryŏdogyŏng, there were Kaekgwans in Kunsando, Mado, Chayŏndo, and the Yesong port, etc. These places were separated by one or two days of traveling distances. They were used to receive envoys, to provide accommodation for travelers or for other various official rituals.
This paper focuses on Anhŭngjŏng among the Western sea paths Kaekgwans. Regarding Anhŭngjŏng, there are two conflicting records indicating that it was Sŏsan Haemi and Taean Mado. This has been the cause of confusion about the geographical location of Anhŭngjŏng. This paper confirms that the anchoring place in Sŏ Keung's Koryŏdogyŏng is Mado in the Taean prefecture. Yet, the paper could not define the characteristic of Haemi Anhŭngjŏng. Haemi Anhŭngjŏng may have been a relocated Kaekgwan after sometime from Mado.
Recently, a series of discoveries of massive sea remains was made around Mado sea area of Anhŭng. Then, that Anhŭngjŏng was in Mado heightens the importance of these findings.
Koryŏdogyŏng written by Sŏ Keung is a very good guide for Western sea paths of Koryŏ period. Yet the names of islands in it are often different from those used nowadays and it often contains errors too. Nonetheless, a thorough historical research of Koryŏdoggyŏng is necessary and close examinations of sea paths should be made.
