메모 악텐의 파도 작품에 나타난 숭고 해석 - 리오타르 숭고론의 이질성 개념을 중심으로 - (An Interpretation of the Sublime in the Works of Memo Akten - with a focus on heterology of Lyotard -)

초록

본 연구는 장 프랑수아 리오타르의 숭고론에 중점을 두고 현대미술의 표현 방식과 방법을 연구하여현대인의 다양한 사회적⋅심리적 문제를 숭고라는 감정을 통해 완화할 수 있다는 관점에서 시작됐으며 이러한 이유에서 연구의 필요성이 있다고 판단하였다. 이러한 연구는 회화의 기본요소인 ‘선과 면, 형, 색(채)’를 미디어아트의 특징인 ‘시지각 유동체’의 접목을 통해 대자연인 파도의 숭고를 표현하는데 시너지 효과가 더해져 그 목적이 있다고 볼 수 있다. 연구의 방법 및 내용으로는 숭고 표현 작가인 메모 악텐(Memo Akten)의 파도(wave)를 형상화한 작품들을 비교, 분석하여 불쾌와 쾌의 감정을 일으키는 매개체(표현방법)를 확인하고 이에 따른 조형 언어를 제시한다. 먼저 시대별 철학자의숭고 개념을 조사하여 숭고론의 전개를 확인하였으며, 숭고와 현대미술의 관계를 패러다임을 통해설명하였다. 이를 통해 칸트의 숭고론의 발전으로 리오타르의 숭고론이 탄생했다는 사실을 확인하였으며 현시할 수 없는 것의 현시를 통해 숭고를 나타낼 수 있다고 보았다. 또한 본 연구의 주안점인리오타르가 주장하는 불일치와 부조화의 특성인 ‘이질성’의 하위개념인 ‘저항, 부정적 현시, 단순성, 열정’ 중 현시할 수 없는 현시(숭고)의 대표적 개념인 부정적 현시를 제외한 ‘저항, 단순성, 열정’을중심으로 현대미술 작가인 메모 악텐 작품을 회화의 기본요소인 ‘선과 면, 형 그리고 색’으로 각각 구분하고 접목하여 비교, 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 숭고 미학은 포스트모더니즘인 해체적 패러다임과 연관성이 매우 높았으며 작가의 파도 표현방법을 통해 ‘대자연의 숭고’, ‘불쾌에서 쾌로의 전환을 통한숭고’를 나타낼 수 있었다. 이번 연구를 통해 향후 예술의 목적성을 토대로 인간의 감정을 고양 시킬수 있는 다양한 연구와 함께 현대미술작품의 방향성에 대한 자문과 함께 학문적 기초자료로 활용되기를 기대한다.

영어초록

This study started with the view that various social and psychological problems of modern people can be alleviated through feelings of sublime by studying the expression methods and methods of contemporary art, focusing on Jean-Francois Liotar's sublime theory. By comparing and analyzing works that embody the waves of Memo Akten, a sublime expression artist, we intend to identify the medium that causes feelings of discomfort and pleasure, and suggest formative language accordingly. First, the development of the sublime theory was confirmed by examining the sublime concept of philosophers by period, and the relationship between the sublime and contemporary art was explained through the paradigm. Through this, it was confirmed that Liotar’s sublime theory was born due to the development of Kant’s sublime theory, and it was considered that the sublime can be expressed through the presentation of what cannot be expressed. In addition, the work of Memo Akten, a contemporary art artist, was compared and analyzed by focusing on ‘resistance, simplicity, passion’ among the sub-concepts of ‘negative manifestation, simplicity, which are the characteristics of inconsistency and dissonance’ claimed by Liotar, which is the main focus of this study. This research process can be seen as significant as synergy effect is added to express the sublime of the waves of nature through the grafting of “line and face, shape, and color,” which are the basic elements of painting, and “situational fluid,” which is a characteristic of media art. As a result of the study, the sublime aesthetics were highly related to the postmodern deconstructive paradigm, and through the artist’s method of expressing waves, “the sublime of Mother Nature” and “the sublime through the transition from unpleasant to pleasure.” It is hoped that this study will be used as academic basic data on the direction of works of art along with various studies that can enhance human emotions based on the purpose of art in the future.
