용악(用樂)의 절차로 본 보허자와 낙양춘의 전승 양상 (Succession of Boheoja and Nakyangchun seen from the viewpoint of the Yongak System)

초록

한국의 보허자와 낙양춘은 송나라에서 유입되었으며, 오랜 세월을 거쳐 한국적인 요소를 많이 가지게 되었다. 그럼에도 불구하고 두 음악은 천년이라는 시간이 흐르면서 한·중 음악교류의 산물로 많은 연구적 가치와 의미를 가지고 있다 할 수 있다. 특히 송나라의 음악을 연구하고자 할 때는 매우 귀중한 자료로 많은 중국 음악학자들에게 관심의 대상이 되고 있다. 그런데, 이 두 음악은 같은 사악(詞樂)임에도 불구하고 고악보에 어떠한 이유로 서로 다르게 수록되어 있는지? 보허자의 고악보 기록이 낙양춘보다 많은 이유는 무엇인지?라는 의문을 가지게 되었다. 필자는 이러한 궁금증을 해결하기 위해 이 두 가지 음악의 용악(用樂) 절차를 살펴보기로 하였다. 왜냐하면 음악은 필요에 따라 연주되는 것으로 보허자와 낙양춘 역시 필요에 의해 연주되었을 것이기 때문이다. 연주의 필요성이 크고, 그 빈도가 많은 음악은 악보로 기록될 가능성이 컸을 것이라 생각하기 때문이다. 그러므로 본 논문에서는 먼저 보허자와 낙양춘의 용악 절차를 설명하려 한다. 먼저 『조선왕조실록』, 『악학궤범』 등 문헌자료에 기록되어 있는 관련 내용들을 정리하여 두 악곡의 용악 상황을 살펴보고자 한다. 용악의 절차를 설명할 때에 의식절차를 위한 연주, 정재반주, 노래 등 세 가지 영역으로 각각 나누어 살펴보고 이러한 기초 작업을 통해 용악의 절차를 비교하여 현재의 전승 양상으로 어떻게 나타나게 되었는지 그 이유를 규명하고자 한다.
보허자와 낙양춘은 의식절차를 위한 연주, 정재반주, 노래 등 세 가지 용악의 절차에서 모두 연주되는 모습이 발견되었다. 조선전기와 후기에는 다소 차이를 보이고 있으며, 특히 조선후기에 들어오면서 이러한 용악의 절차에 차이가 더욱 뚜렷하게 나타나고 있다. 보허자의 용악의 절차를 보면 조선전기에는 의식절차를 위한 연주, 정재반주, 노래의 부분에서 모두 연주되었고, 후기에는 노래의 기능을 상실한 채 의식절차를 위한 연주와 정재반주의 두 가지 부분에서 꾸준히 연주되어 전승되는 모습이 나타났다. 낙양춘의 용악의 절차를 보면 조선전기에는 의식절차를 위한 연주와 노래, 후기에는 의식절차를 위한 연주와 정재반주의 부분에서 연주되는 모습이 발견되었다.
이렇게 보허자와 낙양춘의 전승 양상이 다르게 형성된 이유에 대하여는 용악 절차의 차이, 정재반주에서의 무용 동작과 리듬의 변화 수요, 용악의 절차로 인한 연주 형식의 차이, 현악기 연주의 유무, 연주 범위의 차이 등 많은 측면에서 규명을 시도하였다. 이번 연구의 목적은 보허자와 낙양춘의 전승 양상 형성 원인을 규명하는 것으로 아직 해결하지 못하고 추측만 하고 있는 부분도 있다. 하지만 이번의 연구가 시작에 불과하며 앞으로 보다 깊이있는 한 · 중 사악(詞樂)의 연구로 진행될 수 있도록 더욱 노력하겠다.

영어초록

Korea’s Boheoja and Nakyangchun were introduced from the Song Dynasty, but over a long period of time they already developed many Korean elements. Nevertheless, it can be said that the two pieces of music have great research value and meaning as a product of musical exchange between Korea and China over a thousand years. When the music of the Song Dynasty is studied, Boheoja and Nakyangchun are especially valuable materials, and many Chinese musicologists are interested in them. However, even though both of them are Sa-ak (詞樂), why are Boheoja and Nakyangchun differentiated in ancient scores? To answer the question, “Why is Boheoja recorded more frequently in ancient scores than Nakyangchun?”, we need to look at these two Yongak Systems. As music is played according to need, Boheoja and Nakyangchun would also have been played out of necessity, and if the need for performance is high and the frequency is high, the chances of them being recorded as musical scores are thought to be high. Therefore, in this paper, I will first try to explain the Yongak System of Boheoja and Nakyangchun, and to do so, I will examine the Yongak situation of the two pieces of music by organizing related contents recorded in bibliographic data such as Annals of the Joseon Dynasty and Akhak Gwebeom (Illustrated Text on Traditional Music). When explaining the Yongak System, I divide it into three areas, i.e. ritual procedures, accompaniment to Jeongjae, and singing, and examine each of them. Through this basic work, I compare the Yongak System of the two pieces of music and try to explain the reason behind the current succession situation.
Boheoja and Nakyangchun have been found to be played in all three Yongak systems, i.e. ritual procedures, accompaniment to Jeongjae, and singing, but there are differences between the early and late Joseon Dynasty, and especially in the late Joseon Dynasty, these differences in the Yongak System become more evident. Looking at the Yongak System of Boheoja, in the early Joseon Dynasty, it is found in all three parts: ritual procedures, accompaniment to Jeongjae, and singing; whereas in the later part of the Joseon Dynasty, it lost the function of singing and showed steady succession in the two parts of ritual procedures and accompaniment to Jeongjae. Looking at the Yongak System of Nakyangchun, it has been found to be played in the ritual procedures and singing in the early Joseon Dynasty, and in the ritual procedures and accompaniment to Jeongjae in the late Joseon Dynasty.
I tried to explain the reason for the different succession situations of Boheoja and Nakyangchun through aspects such as differences in the Yongak System, demand for changes in dance movements and rhythm in accompaniment to Jeongjae, differences in playing styles due to the Yongak System, presence or absence of string instruments, and differences in performance range. An attempt was made to find out. In this study, I aim at identifying the causes formed in the succession situations of Boheoja and Nakyangchun, and there are some parts that have not yet been resolved and are only speculated. Since this research is only the beginning, however, I will make further efforts to conduct more in-depth research on Korean and Chinese Sa-ak (詞樂) in the future.
