유라시아대륙 프로펠러형 재갈멈치의 특징과 기원에 대해 (About the characteristics and origin of the propeller-shaped bits on the Eurasian continent)

초록

한국에서 프로펠러형 재갈멈치의 기원 문제는 마구와 관련하여 중요 논점 중의 하나였다. 그것은 한반도에서 가장 먼저 출현한 재갈멈치가 바로 프로펠러형이기 때문이기도 하다. 프로펠러형 재갈멈치는 한반도를 너머 중국지역과 바이칼호 남쪽 지역, 알타이지역, 그리고 서쪽으로 환흑해 북부 드네프르강 유역까지의 광대한 영역에서 사용되었다.
이 글에서는 각 지역 프로펠러형 재갈멈치의 발견 현황을 소개하였고, 또 프로펠러형 재갈멈치의 형태적 특징을 분석하여 형식분류를 시도하였다. 익단이 뾰족하게 점으로 마무리되는 점익단(點翼端)을 가졌는지, 둥글거나 곧은 선으로 마무리되는 선익단(線翼端)을 가졌는지, 익부(翼部)의 형태는 어떠한지 등 익단과 익부의 형태에 주목하여 형식분류를 하였다.
각 형식 프로펠러형 재갈멈치에 대한 지역적 분포양상은 프로펠러형 재갈멈치들이 강한 지역성을 가지고 있음을 보여 주었다. 예를 들어, 본고의 A 그룹 Ⅰ형식과 B-1 그룹 및 B-2 그룹 Ⅰ형식과 Ⅱ형식 재갈멈치는 카스피해 서쪽의 돈강 중류-볼가강 하류 지역, 북코카서스 쿠반강 유역, 환흑해 북부 드네프르강 유역에서만 발견되었다. 또한 A 그룹 Ⅲ형식과 B-1 그룹 Ⅷ형식은 한반도에만 분포하는 특징적인 형태의 프로펠러형 재갈멈치임이 확인되었다.
프로펠러형 재갈멈치는 기원전 6세기 말 무렵에 쿠반강 유역에서 이미 사용되기 시작하였으며, 기원전 5세기에는 그 외 드네프르강 유역과 돈강 중류-볼가강 하류 지역에서도 사용되었고, 또 알타이지역에서는 기원전 6세기~기원전 3세기에 발전한 파지리크 문화에서도 사용되었다. 프로펠러형 재갈멈치의 시원적인 형태는 기원전 8~7세기 혹은 기원전 7세기 말~기원전 6세기 초로 편년되는 알타이의 보이뜨이겜-2 고분군 출토 3공식 재갈멈치에서 찾을 수 있었다.
한반도에서 발견된 프로펠러형 재갈멈치는 동일 형식이 알타이의 흉노 시기 얄로만-2 고분군, 바이칼호 남쪽 흉노 시기 데레스뚜이 고분군, 전국시대 연하도 유적, 부여 시기 서풍 서차구 고분군에서 찾을 수 있었다. 전체적으로 알타이지역에서 발생한 프로펠러형 재갈멈치가 한편으로는 연하도 유적으로, 다른 한편으로는 바이칼호 남쪽과 서풍-유수 지역으로 파급되었을 것이다. 한반도의 프로펠러형 재갈멈치는 시·공간적으로 가까운 서풍 서차구 유적 출토품과 관련이 깊다고 생각된다. 다만 점익단 프로펠러형 재갈멈치의 기원지는 북코카서스일 수도 있는 것으로 판단하였다.

영어초록

In Korea, the question of the origin of propeller-shaped bits is the controversial one, because it was these bits that appeared on the Korean Peninsula before all the others. Propeller-shaped bits are used in such vast territories as the Korean Peninsula, China, and areas of the south of Lake Baikal, in the Altai, and west to the Dnieper River region to north of the Black Sea.
In this paper the situation in which propeller-shaped bits were discovered in each region is examined, their morphological features are studied. The author of this work paid special attention to the shape of the ends of the blade and the shape of the blade itself of propeller-shaped bits. Blades with a sharp end and an end that ends with a line are highlighted. The shape of the blade itself also played a major role in classification.
The situation of the regional distribution of propeller-shaped bits showed that they have quite strong regional features. For example, propeller-shaped bits of type I of the group A, types I and II of the groups В-1 and В-2 were found only to the west of the Caspian Sea, namely in the areas of the middle reaches of the Don and the lower reaches of the Volga, in the Kuban region of the North Caucasus, and in the areas of the Dnieper River. It has been confirmed that propeller-shaped bits of type III of the group A and type Ⅷ of the group В-1 are characteristic exclusively for the Korean Peninsula.
Propeller-shaped bits already at the end of the 6th century BC began to be used in the Kuban region, and in the 5th century BC they are used in the areas of the Dnieper River and in the areas of the Don-Volga rivers. They were used in the Pazyryk culture of Altai, which dates back to the 6th-3rd centuries BC. We can find their original form in bits with three holes from the Boytygem-2 burial ground in Altai, that date back to the 8-7th centuries BC or the end of the 7th and beginning of the 6th centuries BC.
Bits similar to the propeller-shaped ones from Korea were found in the Yaloman-2 burial ground of the Hunnu era in Altai, in the Dyrestuisky burial ground in the south of Lake Baikal of the Xiongnu era, in the Yanxiadu monument of the Zhangguo era, and in the Xichagou burial ground of Xifeng county of the Buyeo (Fuyu) time. In general, it can be assumed that propeller-shaped bits that appeared in Altai, on the one hand, are distributed towards Yansiadu, and on the other hand, towards the region south of Lake Baikal and the Xifeng-Yushu regions. Apparently, the propeller-shaped bits from the Korean Peninsula are closely related to the same bits from the Xichagou burial ground of Xifeng, because they are close in both distance and time. However, it is possible that the origin of propeller-shaped bits with a sharp end of the blade is the North Caucasus.
