아동서사문학의 장애담론과 소통 가능성 (Disability Discourse and Possibility of Communication in Children’s Literature)

초록

‘장애’를 소재와 주제로 하는 많은 작품에서 장애인물은 장애에 대한 작가의 지식을 구현한 모습으로 그려진다. 이러한 시선에 의해 장애를 삶의 조건으로 지닌 사람들은 장애인이라는 하나의 이름으로 치환되고, 비장애주체에 의해 이해되고 해석되어 평면적인 지식으로 남는다. 이는 ‘말과 행위’를 통해 자신을 하나의 주체로 세계에 드러내고자 하는 인간의 태생적 욕망을 박탈하는 것이다.
이러한 문제를 비판하면서, 새로운 장애담론을 보여준 작가가 공진하이다. 작가는 『청아, 청아 눈을 떠라』와 『벽이』를 통해서 장애가 주체의 지식으로만 이해될 때, 장애인물의 소통 가능성은 차단되며, 장애인물은 불행해짐을 드러낸다. 이에 작가는 소통의 빈곤을 극복하기 위해 타자의 목소리를 세계에 드러냄으로써 그들이 행위 할 수 있게 하고자 한다. 『도토리 사용 설명서』에서 작가는 1인칭 주인공 시점으로 서사를 풀어가면서 장애인물에게 ‘말’을 돌려준다. 장애인물의 목소리를 통해 가시화된 세계는 소통하고자 하는 욕망이 가득한 세계이다. 작가는 작품 속에서 장애인물에게 ‘말’을 돌려주고, 아동독자를 ‘듣기’의 윤리를 마주한 독자 주체로 초청한다.

영어초록

Recently, there have been written a lot children literature texts about “disability,” but the disability discourse of the texts includes problematic points. In many texts, the writer’s own knowledge about disabled people is embodied in the disabled characters, but that is only writers image(or knowledge) of disabled people not real lives of them. Under their knowledge, writers Interpellate people with disabilities as ‘a handicapped person’ and reduce them to that name. As a result, the disabled characters are understood and interpreted by non-disabled subjects as simple knowledge rather than the active subject. That deprives the disabled characters of natural desire of humans to reveal themselves to the world as a subject through their own ‘words and actions’. Criticizing this, Gong, Jinha shows the new disability discourse in her texts. The disabled characters are unhappy, when non-disabled characters understand them as their own knowledge in the texts, <Cheong, Cheong, open your eyes> and <Byuki>. In these texts, even though non-disabled characters take care the disabled characters with devotion, non-disabled characters make the disabled character’s words and action not reveal to the world and limit their names to ‘the disabled’. Thus the writer criticizes the subject’s one side communication and poverty of communication between the non-disabled and the disabled. The writer try to let the Other’s words reveal on the world to overcome poverty of communication. The writer uses the first person narrative in <How to use Dotori>, she helps the disabled character tells readers about himself. The writer does not explain her knowledge about the disabled, she just let the Others say about themselves and restore their words. Children readers can or can not be in sympathy with the Others (the disabled) through these text. The writer leaves the ethic of listening to the reader’s subjective judgment instead of speaking her knowledge.
