高宗代‘花山 李氏’李龍祥의 高麗 정착 관련 기록 검토 (Examination on the Records Relevant to ‘Hwasan Yi Clanʼ Yi Yong-sang(Ly Long Tuoʼng)ʼs Goryeo settlement under King Gojongʼs Reign)

초록

1921년에 간행된 『花山李氏世譜』의 「花山君本傳」은 베트남 왕족 출신이라고 하는 李龍祥이 베트남을 떠나 高麗 甕津에 정착하였으며, 그가 高宗40년 몽골과의 전투에서 활약을 한 내용을 담고 있다. 다만 이 기록은 조선후기에 완성된 족보이며, 근대에 간행되었다는 점에서 그 내용을 그대로 역사 자료로 활용하기에 어려운 면이 있기도 하다.
논의의 대상인 「화산군본전」은 크게 베트남 이왕조의 멸망 상황과 그곳을탈출할 수밖에 없었던 이용상이 항몽활동 과정을 거치면서 고려에 정착하는내용으로 구성되어 있다. 이 가운데 이왕조 말기의 상황을 언급한 부분은 『大越史記全書』 등의 사서와 비교해 보면 부분적으로 오류가 있으며, 이용상의 고려 정착과 고종 40년의 항몽활동과 관련된 서술은 『高麗史』 등에 관련된 내용이 직접 나타나지 않고 있다는 등의 문제점이 있기는 하다. 하지만, 이용상의 고려 정착이나 항몽활동과 관련된 내용이 1700년 이전부터전해 내려왔다는 점에서 그 가치를 폄하할 수는 없다. 더군다나 항몽활동은 「화산군본전」의 내용과 『고려사』 등의 사서를 서로 보완했을 때, 좀 더 매끄럽게 역사적 사실이 해석된다는 점에서 자료로서의 가치는 충분히 확인된다.
그러한 사례로 그 동안 위치 비정이 어려웠던 『고려사』의 椋山城과 『元高麗紀事』의 禾山城이 「화산군본전」의 安陵山城과 관련을 맺고 있다는 점을들 수 있다. 모두 처음으로 몽골에 공격당해 함락된 성이라는 공통점을 안고 있는 것이다. 안릉은 서해도에 위치한 황해도 재령의 별호로, 안릉산성은그 곳에 위치한 長壽山城을 가리키는 것으로 판단된다. 또한 고려 침략의主將으로 참여한 몽골 장수 松柱가 『고려사』 등의 기록에는 전혀 기재되어있지 않는데, 「화산군본전」에는 송주가 5개월 동안 옹진 공략에 집중한 것으로 서술하고 있어 그 이유를 짐작해 볼 수 있게 한다. 물론 龜州城에 대한 평과 옹진지역의 전투에 대한 몽골 노장의 평이 유사하다거나, 비교 대상이 없어 다루지 못한 내용들 가운데는 조선 후기에 족보를 편찬하는 과정에서 『고려사』나 다른 기록을 참조해 보완할 가능성도 있으므로, 조심스럽게 접근할 필요는 있다.
「화산군본전」의 내용이 다른 기록들에서 언급되어 있지 않음에도 『고려사』 등의 기록과 비교해 보면, 그 내용이 어긋나기보다는 서로 부족한 부분을 보완해주는 역할을 한다는 점에서 충분한 가치를 느낄 수 있다. 「화산군본전」에 대한 검토 작업이 앞으로 좀 더 이뤄진다면, 『고려사』를 보완할 자료로서의 역할을 충분히 담당할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

영어초록

「Primary Biography of Lord Hwasan」 of 『Hwasan Yi Clan Genealogy』contains a story where Yi Yong-sang(Ly Long Tuoʼng)ʼs who is of Vietnameseroyal blood settled down in Ongjin in Goryeo after departing Vietnam, andhis remarkable role in anti-Monglia movement during the forty years underKing Gojongʼs reign. However, this record is based on the genealogy thatwas completed in the late Joseon Dynasty and the genealogy itself waspublished in 1921. This weakens the recordʼs usability as historical sourcesas the way it is. Nevertheless, considering that the stories about Yi Yong-sang(Ly Long Tuoʼng)ʼs Goryeo settlement or his anti-Mongolia movement havebeen descended from as early as before 1700, it is unlikely that the contentswere created in the modern. This article compares the records in 「PrimaryBiography of Lord Hwasan」 with historical facts and verifies its value as ahistorical sources.
The subject of discussion 「Primary Biography of Lord Hwasan」 is largelycomposed of two parts: the first part describes the fall of the Yi(Ly) Dynasty in Vietnam and the second part describes Yi Yong-sang(Ly Long Tuoʼng)ʼsinevitable escape from Vietnam and his anti-Mongolia movement as well ashis settlement in Goryeo afterwards. Among these, the parts that mentionthe situation at the end of the Lee Dynasty have partial error compared toother historical books such as 『A Complete History of Dai Viet』. Moreover,the description about Yi Yong-sang(Ly Long Tuoʼng)ʼs Goryeo settlement andhis anti-Mongolia movement over forty years under King Gojong isproblematic in that it is not shown in other sources such as 『Goryeosa』.
Nevertheless, the anti-Mongolia movement in 「Primary Biography of LordHwasan」 enables more smooth interpretation about the historical facts whencomplemented by contents from other historical books such as 『Goryeosa』and this provides sufficient supports its value as historical sources.
One of such example is the fact that two fortresses in 「Goryeosa」 thathad difficulty in designating the exact location can be related to AnreungFortress mentioned in 「Primary Biography of Lord Hwasan」. That is, thebyname of Jaeryoung is in fact Anreung. The only stone fortress in Jaeryoungis Jangsoosan Seoksung, which has a similar shape to the two fortressesdescribed in 『Goryeosa』. Moreover, Jangsoo Fortress was located inHwasan-myeon in Jaeryoung. The geographic name of Hwasan gives a clueabout the Hwasan Fortress whose location was not determined based on『Yuan-Goryeo Relations』 and this deserves attention.
Moreover, the puzzle why the activity of Mongolian general Song Ju whoparticipated in Goryeo invasion as a captain is not included in any othersources such as 『Goryeosa』 can be solved using 「Primary Biography ofLord Hwasan」. According to 「Primary Biography of Lord Hwasan」, Song Juwas focusing on Ongjin attack for five months. That is, he could not attack other regions due to the focus on Ongjin attack and as a result no recordabout him remains. The historical interpretation goes much smoother whenreading the two records together, and it provides sufficient historical valuesfor 「Primary Biography of Lord Hwasan」. A careful approach is required,however, as the evaluation on Park Seo is similar to that about Lee Yong-sangand it is also possible that the genealogy actually referred to 『Goryeosa』and other records during the publishing procedure in the late Joseon Dynastyin order to complement the missing parts.
