국제 학술지로서의 «글짜씨» 논문 작성 규정 개정 방안 (Amendment Plans for Regulations for Writing «LetterSeed» Articles as an International Journal)

초록

이 글은 «글짜씨» 논문 작성 규정 개편 제안을 위한 연구이다. «글짜씨» 1–10호의 편집과 디자인을 맡았던 김병조의 1차 개편안을 바탕으로 필자가«글짜씨» 11, 12호를 편집하면서 부딪혔던 문제를 중심으로 새로운 규정을제안한다. 특히 국제적 호환성과 타이포그래피 작품성을 모두 충족하는 학술지를목표로, «글짜씨»가 9호부터 도입한 ‘한국어-영어 병기’에 따른 논문 편집의문제점을 정리하고 개선 방향을 논의한다. 이를 위해 먼저 국내외 조형 예술분야 학술지 중 등재지들의 논문 작성 규정 비교를 통해 가장 많이 사용되고있는 양식이자 «글짜씨» 논문 규정과도 가까운 시카고 양식을 분석해 «글짜씨» 논문 규정 개선안을 도출한다. 해외 저자의 증가와 함께 다국어 타이포그래피, 국제 타이포그래피 비엔날레와 같은 국제적 주제를 다룬 11, 12호에서 민감하게발생했던 언어 병기의 실제 문제 사례들을 열거하고 새로 제안하는 규정을 적용해제시한다. 기존에 사용해왔던 시카고 양식(The Chicago Manual of Style, 16th Edition)을 한국어와 영어에 일관되게 적용하되 언어권별 연구 관례에 무리가없는 전제 조건 아래 논문 작성 규정의 세부안을 다듬었다. 그 결과로 1) 약식주석 도입, 2) 로마자/비로마자 원서의 참고 문헌 표기법 변화, 3) 단행본과 글제목 표기 문장 부호 변경, 4) 투고 규정 개편을 제안한다. 제안의 세부는 확정적결과물일 수 없으며 연구 공동체의 제언 속에 13호의 편집부터 적용하면서끊임없이 다듬어져 갈 것이다. 이 연구는 «글짜씨» 내지 구성 전체가 아닌논고만을 연구 대상으로 한 만큼, 전체의 기획 방향과 디자인을 아우르는 추가연구가 뒤따라야 2차 개편이 완성될 것이다.

영어초록

This is a research paper recommending the reorganization of the submission regulation for «LetterSeed» journal. Based on the first amendment of Kim Byungjo, who was in charge of editing and designing issues 1–10 of «LetterSeed», I am suggesting new regulations based on the problems I encountered while editing issue 11 and 12 of «LetterSeed».
Aiming for a journal that satisfies international compatibility and the literary value of typography, this paper organizes the editing problems coming from ‘Korean-English multilingual writing’ which was introduced in «LetterSeed 9» and discusses the direction for improvement. For this reason, I first analyze the Chicago Manual Style, which is the closest to the «LetterSeed» journal regulation and most widely used. Through the comparison of journal writing regulations of domestic and international formative arts field, I derive suggestions for improvement for «LetterSeed» journal’s writing regulation. This paper lists actual examples of multilingual writing problems which were sensitive in issue 11 and 12 that dealt with international topics such as multilingual typography and the international typography biennale along with the increase of foreign authors, as well as suggests regulations. Chicago style, which was the existing style, is consistently applied both in Korean and English but the details of journal regulations are polished, under the assumption that it is not too hard on the classification of research language practices. As a result, I suggest 1) introducing short notes, 2) changing the notation of the bibliography of a Roman/non-Roman book, 3) altering punctuation marks for books and the title of articles, 4) reorganizing the regulation of contribution. The details of these suggestions are not a definitive result and will constantly need to be refined by applying it to issue 13 through the proposal from the research community. As this study is not targeted for the entire composition of the inner pages, but only for the manuscript of the paper, the second amendment will be completed when additional research that harmonizes the design and the whole direction of planning ensues.
