초록

한국연구재단의 지원으로 시행된 인문도시사업의 일환으로 노년세대를 대상으로 하는 자서전 쓰기 체험활동을 진행했다. 본고는 그 결과를 정리, 그 의미를 분석하는 연구를 진행한다. 노년세대는 신체적으로나 정서적으로 쇠약한 시기를 걷고 있다. 노 인 인구가 증가함에도 불구하고 이들의 삶은 존중받고 인정받는 기회가 드문 게 현 실이다. 기관이나 국가 차원에서 이들을 구제하기 위해 다양한 지원과 사업을 시행 하고 있지만 근본적으로 이들이 자신의 삶을 통찰하고 미래를 내다볼 수 있는 프로그램은 많지 않다. 자서전은 한 인간의 과거와 현재, 그리고 미래까지 기록할 수 있는 개인의 역사서 이자 사회 문화적 기록이라 할 수 있다. 한국이 지난 백여 년 간 겪어온 국가적 재난 과 가난은 이들의 삶의 모습과 밀접한 관련이 있다. 어쩌면 역사적 이슈로 인해 이들 의 개별적 삶 속 고난은 당연하게 여겨져 왔다. 그러나 이들을 치유할 수 있는 것은 타자와 국가가 아닌, 바로 자신이어야 한다. 자신을 들여다보고, 있는 그대로 고백할 때 타자와의 주체적 대화가 가능해진다. 자서전에서 주체의 행위와 목적, 소통가능성을 논하는 데에 루소의 저서 고백』, 푸 코의 “자기배려” 개념을 참조한다. 학제적 의미와 실제 자서전 쓰기 체험활동으로부 터 확인되는 특징적 요소를 결합해 자서전이 가지는 문학적, 문화적 가능성을 확인 해 나갈 것이다. 그리하여 고령화 사회에 노년 세대가 정체성을 탐색하고 노인이 자 신의 존재 가치를 깨달아 건강하게 사회로 회귀하고 기여할 수 있도록 하는 실천적 모델을 제안하는 것이 본 연구의 궁극적 목적이다.

영어초록

This study conducts research that sums up the result of the experiential activity of writing an autobiography for the elderly generation, of the citizens of Iksan and analyzes its meaning as part of the Project for a City of Humanities implemented with the support of the Korea Student Aid Foundation. The elderly generation spends a period when they are physically and emotionally weak. Despite the elderly population increases, in reality, there are rare chances in which their lives are respected and recognized. In the institution or state level, various supports and businesses are implemented to save them, but there are few programs by which they can have an insight into their lives and look ahead into the future, fundamentally. Autobiography is an individual’s history book and socio-cultural record in which he or she can record the past, present, and future. The national disasters and poverty that Korea has suffered for the past 100 years or so are closely related to their lives. Perhaps because of historical issues, adversities in their individual lives have been taken for granted. However, the self, not the other or the state should be the person who can heal them. Subjects can approach others only when they look into themselves and confess themselves to the others as they are. This study would identify the literary and cultural potentials of autobiography, combining the disciplinary concept drawn through Rousseau and Foucault with the characteristic elements found out through the actual experiential activity of writing an autobiography. Thus, the ultimate purpose of this study is to propose a practical model that enables the elderly generation to return to society and contribute to it healthily, exploring their identity and realizing the value of their existence.
