초록

Destruction of ecosystem generated in the process of industrialization focused on development in 1970 does not mean just natural environmental pollution. It rather means the destruction of socio-ecology, e.g. labor problem, conflict between classes, urban problem, etc., which approaches the main group of the time as more serious threat to socio-ecology. This danger gets more deepened in the specific politics and ideological situation of this time, Jo, sehee's『A small ball shot up by a dwarf』opens an important possibility of ecological novel in regard of revealing this in general.
When premising the conclusion of ecological novel is to construct an ecological society, the writer's socio-ecological viewpoint, which shows the culture of 1970s' problem of industrial society and ecological prospect at the same time, particularly is worthy of notice.
The writer shows the problem of industrial urban space in『A small ball shot up by a dwarf』, and suggests necessary ecological ethics and political recognition on practice to overcome this. Pathological symptoms in the novel are based on socio-ecological reason which views body as social constitution, in order to explore curability of the society by treating social environment as human body. Also, industrial city, which is symbolized as 'Eungang', is not only an apocalyptic space of desolated capitalistic city, but also suggested as a practical space to deconstruct this. The writer especially emphasizes the necessity of ecological ethics, which is a sort of the ethics of resistance against distorted development and progress in industrial period, and induces collective awakening to correct capitalistic reality and contradiction of social system.
In view of this,『A small ball shot up by a dwarf』can be said to be a very political narration. In comparison with other 1970s' novels, which remained exposure, or accusation of the contradiction of that time, this work attempted restoration of social ecology through thoughtful introspection about the fundamental cause of that destruction. This was originated from Jo, sehee's social ecological meditation that ecological crisis can be overcome through the revolution of capitalistic social structure.
