교양철학 교육의 현실과 학습자중심 교양철학교육 - 한남대 교양철학 교육을 중심으로 - (The present situation of philosophical education and learner-centered education for general philosophy)

초록

대학의 교양교육 강화라는 패러다임 전환 속에서 교양철학의 위상과 역할에 대한 새로운 인식이 필요하다. 교양철학은 단순한 철학적 지식의 전달과 학습이 아닌 개인의 정체성과 삶의 문제를 풀어 나가는 단초를 제공하는 데 궁극적인 목적을 두어야 한다. ‘2011 교양철학 수강생 인식조사’에서 학생들의 철학에 대한 관심과 학습욕구를 객관적으로 확인할 수 있었다. 또한 수강생 스스로 학습자 중심의 수업모델을 선호하는 것으로 나타났다. 학습자 중심의 수업모델은 문제중심형, 토론중심형, 프로젝트 수업으로 구분되며 각각의 수업모델에서 교수역량지표와 학습자의 수업준비와 필요로 하는 역량이 다르다. 소위 ‘살아 있는 교양철학 교육’을 위해 교양철학 교육방향, 교육콘텐츠 및 수업모델 개발이 필요하다. 교수역량 강화를 위한 관련 워크샵이 진행되어야 한다. 영상세대에 다가가기 위해 교수자의 매체활용 능력이 요구된다. 제도적 측면에서 수강신청 인원제한, 강좌 개설의 유연성 확보, 다학문과정과의 연계시켜야 한다. ‘살아 있는 교양철학 교육’을 위해 교수자와 학습자의 상호이해와 교수자의 역량 및 콘텐츠 개발, 교양교육 정책과의 의미 있는 ‘상호 작용행위’가 필요한 시점이다.

영어초록

The objective of this thesis is to propose an optimal teaching methodology of philosophy for the rapidly changing academic environment. It assesses the current status and function of the philosophical education at universities where general education is being emphasized more than ever. Under such paradigm shift, philosophical education should not be confined to delivering superficial knowledge of philosophy. It should be expanded to providing students with the clues to discover their identities and to resolve troublesome matters in their lives.
A questionnaire is used to find out university students attitudes toward philosophical education and their preferences of teaching methods. The survey data indicates that students want the change of philosophical education in both the contents and methodology. It also suggests that students prefer an active learner-centered education to a passive lecture-based one.
There are three types of class models in learner-centered education; problem-based learning, debate-based learning, and project-based learning. This thesis analyses these class types with an intention to identify the core competency required for both lecturers and students in order for the success of each type.
In conclusion, this thesis proposes three directions for the change in teaching philosophy as a general education at universities. First, the lectures should set new goals and directions for the education and develop new class models that would satisfy the needs of the students. Second, lecturers should hold joint workshops or seminars to improve teaching methods and develop new educational contents. Third, the administration should support operational issues such as class size limits, flexibilities in class opening, and links with other major courses.
