근ㆍ현대 한국 신종교 주문(呪文)에 나타난 한국인의 종교심성 연구 (The Study of Religious Mentallity of Korean －Manifested in the Religious spells of Moderan and Contemporary Korean Neo-Religions－)

초록

근ㆍ현대 한국 신종교(新宗敎)의 연구는 이제 개별적 종교의 소개나 단순 비교의차원을 넘어서 보다 심층적(深層的)이고 통합적 시각의 연구가 필요하다. 이러한연구를 위해서는 신종교 각각을 관통하는 공통의 주제가 중요한 요소가 된다. 본 연구가 관심을 갖는 주문(呪文)에 대한 연구는 종교를 이해하는데 매우 유의미하면서도 중요한 종교적 핵심코드(Core code)가 된다.
한국 신종교가 가진 주문(呪文)의 유형과 내용분석, 사상적 연원 탐구 그리고 종교적 수행과 의례에서의 의미 등을 탐색 연구하는 과정에서 한국 신종교를 공통적으로 관통하는 종교적 의미와 신앙체계(Belief system)와 한국 민중들이 본래적으로가지고 있는 종교적 심성의 원형(原型, Archetype)을 발견 할 수 있다고 본다. 그리고 그 사상적 연원(Origin of thought)을 확인할 수 있다고 본다.
한국의 신종교는 1860년 수운 최제우의 동학 창도이후 해방 전 12계통 백여 단체를 헤아릴 정도로 그 수와 규모면에서 대단하였으며, 해방 후 14계통 4백여 개까지되었으나, 현재는 3백여 개가 남아 있는 것으로 추산되고 있다. 이러한 한국 신종교에서는 그 신행의 방법으로 다양한 주문을 사용하고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 한국의 근현대 역사 속에서 그 종교적 역할과 명맥을 수행하고 있는 중요한 신종교의주문을 그 대상으로 하였다.
한국 신종교의 주문에 나타난 한국인의 주요한 종교심성은 천(天) 기(氣) 심(心)등의 핵심개념과 이에 대한 믿음과 수행의 체계 등으로 확인된다. 그러나 이러한 한국인 고유의 종교심성은 근현대 역사 속에서 매운 심한 혼돈 속에 빠져들게 되었음을 알 수 있다.
이러한 개념들이 각종 교육과 수행 등을 통해서 현대 한국인들의 생활과 의식 속에 자리 잡게 될 때, 현대사회의 많은 문제점들도 치유될 수 있는 그 방향을 찾을수 있으리라고 예상해 본다.

영어초록

The study of Korean new religion in modern and contemporary requires in-depth and integral perspective research rather than introduction of individual religion or simple comparison. In such research methodology,common theme penetrating every new religion is important element.
In this research, religious spell or holy words has been dealt as an important and significant religious core code for understanding them.
On the process of research through analysis of type and content of religious spell, investigation of ideological origin, and meaning in religious practice and ceremony, we can find out the religious significance and the belief system commonly penetrating Korean new religions,an archetype of religious nature of Korean people’s originally own,and furthermore, origin of thoughts.
Korean new religion presently assumes to be remaining three hundreds organizations, soon after establishment of Donghak by Choi Je-Woo in 1860 was a hundreds organizations in twelve religious groups, and after the independence was, flourished in numbers and size, four hundreds organizations in fourteen groups. Those Korean new religions are using various religious spells for their belief and practice methods.
This research has dealt with religious spells in important new religions taking significant role and continuing tradition of their religion in the modern and contemporary history of Korea.
This research has found out that important religious nature of Korean is core concepts as like heaven(天), energy(氣), mind(心),and so on, and the structure of belief and practice in them. It also identify that religious nature of Korean was intactly melted in those modern and contemporary Korean new religions. However, such religious nature of Korean was sunken in tremendous confusion in the modern and contemporary history. Nevertheless, in the tenets and thoughts of Korean new religion silently kept Korean calm religious nature in modern and contemporary history, especially in the religious spells used in those religions, they contains core concepts to heal emotional pathological phenomena of contemporary society.
We can expect that when those concepts are located in the life and the consciousness of contemporary Korean by various education or practice, then diverse matters of contemporary society can be cured.
