지역대표도서관 주제자료실의 이용행태 분석에 관한 연구-열람실·서가 공간구성을 중심으로- (A Study of the Usage Pattern of the Regional Representative Library -Focurse on Spatial Configuration of Reading Room and Bookshelf Spaces-)

초록

(연구배경 및 목적) 현대의 도서관 학습공간의 형태는 각각의 전공분야 및 특성에 의한 공간이 필요함에도 불구하고, 전공특성에 따른 설문조사 및 이용행태에 대한 분석조차 이루어지지 않고 있다. 이에 도서관 정보생산량 증가에 따른 대형화, 외부환경의 변화, 이용자 정보요구의 전문화, 그리고 세분화 경향에 따라서 효과적으로 대응하기 위해서는 주제 또는 학문 영역이 중심이 되는 서비스를 수행하는 것이 바람직하다는 인식이 점차적으로 확산되고 있지만, 아직까지도 대부분의 도서관들이 주제자료실을 전공별 특성에 따른 차별화를 두지 않고, 획일화하여 사용하는 등 이에 따른 실천이 이루어지지 않고 있는 실정이다. 그러므로 효율적인 동선은 물론 전공 주제별로 특화된 서가, 열람공간에 대한 재배치가 이루어질 수 있도록 체계적으로 검토되어야하며, 이용자들을 적극적으로 수용할 수 있는 주제자료실 환경을 조성하여 활용도를 높이는 것이 근본적인 연구의 목적이다. (연구방법) 지역대표도서관 주제자료실의 정의 및 특성, 현재 현황에 대하여 파악하고, 각 전공별 이용자에게 영향을 주는 요인을 알아보기 위해 선행연구에 대한 조사, 분석하였다. 최근 국내 지역대표도서관 8개관을 사례로 선정하여 주제자료실 이용자를 중심으로, 도서관의 개요 및 공간구성과 주제자료실 가구배치 형태 현황에 대하여 조사하고, 주제자료실 이용자 행태 및 실내공간에 대한 설문조사를 통해 분석하였다. 이러한 문헌 및 사례에 대한 고찰과 이용자에게 영향을 주는 요소 분석을 바탕으로 하여 현재 지역대표도서관 주제자료실의 문제점을 파악하고, 이에 대한 개선방안을 제시하고자 한다. (결과) 연구의 결과로 첫째, 인구 통계학적 측면에서 살펴보았을 때, 연령대는 20대의 이용자가 가장 높았다. 둘째, 지역대표도서관마다 선호하는 가구배치형태에는 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 지역대표도서관마다 선호하는 열람가구의 칸막이 유무와 높이가 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났고, 마지막으로 선호하는 공용 열람가구에서의 전공별 각 주제자료실은 4인 또는 6인 대면형으로 배치 계획 하는 것으로 분석되었다. (결론) 본 연구는 지역대표도서관 주제자료실 이용자의 각 전공특성을 고려한 공간이용에 따른 만족도 및 요구 및 전공별 특성에 따른 차이를 조사하여 주제자료실 이용자를 위한 효율적인 주제자료실의 공간계획과 방향 및 기준을 제시하는 것에 목적이 있다.

영어초록

(Background and Purpose) As the style of the study space has evolved to become major-specific, there is a need for space tailored to the unique characteristics of each major. However, there has been no survey on the unique characteristics of each major or analysis of the major-specific use of study spaces. Moreover, due to the expansion of library information production, external environmental changes, as well as the specification and specialization of demands on information by users, there is a growing consensus that the focus of services must be on subjects or disciplines in order to keep up with such changes effectively. Nonetheless, most libraries have yet to put such thinking into action. This is because they have not differentiated subject-based archives depending on the characteristics of majors, but have standardized them instead. (Method) This research sought an understanding of the definition, characteristics, and current state of local libraries. It also investigated and analyzed precedent studies to discern factors influencing users with different majors. It then selected eight regional libraries in Korea as case examples. Research was conducted on their outlines, spatial arrangement, and the arrangement of furniture in subject reference rooms. This study also conducted a survey on behavioral patterns of subject reference room users and indoor space. The results of this survey were analyzed. Based on the study of case examples, extant literature, and the analysis of factors that can influence users, this study sought to identify and provide solutions to problems encountered in a subject reference room at a current regional representative library. (Results) First, from the demographic perspective, people in their 20s were the highest percentage of users. Second, there are various preferences among community libraries in terms of furniture arrangements. Third, there are differences among community libraries in terms of dividers for desks and their height. Finally, each of the four major reference libraries should be placed face to face and number between four and six people . (Conclusions) This study provides an efficient approach toward and standards for space planning of the subject reference room, taking into consideration the unique characteristics of each subject for users of local representative libraries. It achieved this by investigating the major-specific differences in satisfaction and demands for space utilization of the reference room in local representative libraries. The paper only deals with domestic regional representative libraries, so it suggests additional research on the users of different specialties in representative local libraries abroad in the future.
